NCSU’s bowl appearance against UCLA cancelled. Maybe something can be worked out with ECU, whose bowl game was also cancelled this week? We can call it the Bojangles Bowl.
Won’t happen. Nothing it that game for NC State. Apparently however there are discussions to try to slap a game together with another opponent.
Saw this article too in the immediate aftermath, looks like they’ve already tried 10-ish teams. Fingers crossed we can find somebody, but not overly optimistic. I did see Wake Forest’s original opponent, Texas A&M, dropped out their bowl for COVID and they got a replacement team in the form of Rutgers. So there is some sort of precedent however, I think I saw Debby Yow tweet something about this, UCLA left it extremely late to inform NC State. Normally they’d have a contingency of potential teams but would need 5-7 days to make it all happen.
I knew that, it was just a joke. But NCSU and ECU’s athletics directors have talked and officially ruled out the possibility because of the late notice and the fact that ECU has already sent everyone on break.
UNC is set to play South Carolina at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte tomorrow at 11:30am. Wonder if that game will still go on?
I’m betting under 40% chance Carolina game happens. I bagged the trip myself. Didn’t really want to go to charlotte usa anyway and watching 2 6-6 teams wasn’t all that appealing either.
You think also the fact that we open up the season in Greenville next year might have had an influence on that too? If we hadn’t played them in a handful of years there coulda been more will for it to happen?
Anyways, doesn’t really matter as I saw the Holiday Bowl folks official canceled the game today
I know there are already too many bowl games, but if we get the downtown south stadium, I’d love a college bowl game in Raleigh with the AAC and Sun Belt.
Welcome Dn10! Thanks for your posting. This also may work @ Carter Finley Stadium.
Good point. Surprised the ACC hasn’t tried that already to be honest.
NC State was so screwed by UCLA’s selfishness. It was no sweat to them to wait until the last minute because they didn’t have any flight expenses to incur, and their fans in the Los Angeles area could make the game a day trip. Their whole wait-and-see strategy just reeks. Now I have another light blue team to dislike!
My only consolation is that UNC absolutely embarrassed themselves in a game that they clearly should have won yesterday.
Doak renovation plans unveiled: North Carolina State University
Seems nice, but also seems like the bare minimum at the same time?
Glad they’re improving the Doak, but I was hoping for something more substantial. Kinda disappointed TBH.
Same, happy for the improvements but overall kinda meh. I knew we weren’t going to get anything like the Arkansas/SEC schools. Avent has truly built a championship contender and I thought now would be the time to strike while the iron is hot for something bigger/better
I’m not being facetious, what else would you have liked to have seen? That location is great, but limits expansion possibilities. Plus, better to have a tight, packed house than a bigger half-empty one.
More seats and canopy over the majority of seats and concourse area.
The improvements are nice, but they kinda should’ve alrady been in the works as regular updates. Updates for a consistent top 10 program should be more than that.
Covered seating, outfield bleachers, just for starters. I’m sure there’s more than meets the eye (player enhancements that the fans will never see), but at first glance, it looks like they spent $15m on new picnic tables.
Honestly I’ll admit ECU probably has the best college baseball stadium in the state of NC. They had a student section called the ‘Williams Jungle’ that I think we coulda tried something to do with maybe in the outfield?
How familiar are you with the stadium? Based on the videos they are totally rebuilding the indoor batting facility, attaching a new building to it with seating on the roof, building some sort of landscaped terraced bleacher thing (?? I have no idea what to call it), with food and new bathrooms.
I mean that’s honestly a ton of stuff for $15MM.
best case scenario: 2nd level of seats above the existing buildings and concourse. Roof over some of it. At least get the capacity to over 5,000!
(in addition to what they’ve already proposed)
Consistently one of the top ten programs in … the ACC? The state of North Carolina?
