Does this count as a win for Oak City Baseball?

Who watches cricket that’s so Raleigh, just like the folks who smashed and grabbed at Kohls last night by Wakefield.

It’s lame AF.

IMO.

Who pissed in your cornflakes?

It’s not NFL or MLB. Not even MLS. I have tried to watch cricket, and I had no idea what was going on. It’s not something I get into.

But fact is, it will be one of the premier cricket facilities in the country. The article mentions hosting international matches. So it should draw out of state visitors.

It’s not meant to excite you. Nor most Americans. Morrisville has a huge Indian population.

No idea what any of that last bit was, but the Triangle has a huge population from South Asia, who are (generally speaking) rabid cricket fans.

Great point and if not for anything else, I love the diversity in culture this brings. Not only catering to those passionate for this sport, but giving the rest of us an opportunity to share in it.

Like @Kanatenah I don’t understand diddly-squat about the rules, but do understand it has tremendous worldwide reach. More people watch the Cricket World Cup than the Super Bowl and the fact US Cricket is going to build their flagship facility in this area would definitely be a net positive.

1.6 billion people were watching live coverage of the last cricket world cup which is insanely mindboggling to me. Basically 1 out of 7 (ish) people worldwide were watching that tournament live :exploding_head:

Cricket rules. Grow up.

1 billion of that number is India…hence Morrisville

I will go to exactly the same number of cricket games as I would hypothetical MLS games (zero point zero zero (0.00)) but it’s still good for the triangle so cool. Now let’s all stop being racist, kthx

As the TBJ reported, Cary released a request for qualifications for their Recreations and Sports Center. This facility will be operated by Cary, but is intended as a regional attraction -so Wake County and Raleigh are partially funding this project as well. As a reminder:

The above numbers (as well as tons of pretty pictures) exist because this was going to be built in the mixed-use development in the Cary Towne Center site -until Epic Games bought it to turn into their new headquarters. This means those old plans and pictures have to be redone, which is why this RFQ (i.e. the Town looking for good developers to potentially work with) is happening.

Cary is in “very early, friendly talks” with the South Hills site (which real estate investors recently bought), but we’re yet to find out where this will be. The designer should be selected by May, though, so we might expect them to help decide whether that site (or somewhere else) will be used in the next year or os.

The N&O has a story on the governor’s take on sports betting here in NC. The bill passed the NC senate last year, has the governor’s support, and is hopefully up for (and will pass) a NC house vote this year. About 20 states currently have legalized online sports betting in their state (Draft Kings, Fan Duel, etc).

What struck me was the rate the state is proposing to tax gambling revenue at. We plan on taxing almost half of what Virginia and Tennessee currently tax:

The current bill would tax adjusted gaming revenue at 8%, nearly half of Virginia’s 15% tax rate and much lower than Tennessee’s 20% tax rate, according to the research by the National Conference of State Legislatures. Some states charge as much as 51% tax. Iowa and Nevada, which was exempt from the federal ban before 2018, levy a 6.75% tax on sports betting revenue, the lowest in the nation.

The article is apparently part of a seven part series on sports betting here in NC for those that are interested.

The TBJ reported that the ACC “could come [to a decision] within a month” about where they’ll move their headquarters -and it looks like Charlotte’s the frontrunner. The article talks about some of the pros and cons that we’ve discussed on here before, but with more details on the depth of the ACC’s existing presence in Charlotte.

I don’t think we’ll miss out on much beyond shallow bragging rights, anyways, if we lose this particular bid. So I wouldn’t get too worked up.

I wonder if this has any chance of passing?
