That would kill the 45 minute hurdle. MLB coming to Raleigh with this one, will be the largest MSA really without any kind in stats standard
For years and years there was always a home game during one of the State Fair weekends - I always thought it was great. Go to a 1 pm game, then spend the rest of the day at the Fair. Sort of like the OU vs Texas-Austin game at the Texas State Fair - though the Cotton Bowl is actually on the fair grounds in Dallas. People did complain though - too much traffic, too crowd, and of course shadows . . . oh, maybe not shadows.
Speaking of, Manfred the baseball commission had this to say yesterday:
âRob Manfred: âFor there to be serious talk about realignment, it would be done in the context of expansion. You almost have to talk about some realignment in the context of expansionâŚif you went to 32 youâd at least have to talk about getting geographicââ
The one Iâm remembering was back in 2008 and it was a primetime Thursday night game on ESPN. I just remember the whole tailgating section on the other side of Trinity from the stadium was used for State Fair parking only and all those people normally tailgaiting there parked at the vet school. It was fun having thousands of people walking down the road, where thereâs no sidewalks and limited flood lights out there, back to the vet school from the stadium was a mess and probably took the longest amount of time to get out of the State game in all my years going.
I think specifically now NC State requests to the ACC annually to NOT have a home game scheduled during the State Fair.
I donât think thereâs an open field there anymore.
OMFGâŚwe canât even keep our baseball team. Wilson is a better location for Wake Countyâs minor league team? $10,000 says they will put their stadium downtownâŚ
I donât really consider the mudcats âourâ baseball team out in Zebulon. I have been to a couple of games but I wonât loose any sleep if they go to Wilson.
If we ever want a team in Raleigh, losing the Mudcats to Wilson doesnât hurt. Although I hate to think about Five County stadium just rusting away out there in Zebulon. Over time I think the majority of Raleigh residents have adopted the Bulls over the Mudcats which has led to their decline in attendance.
Mudcats are using this as leverage to make Wake County and Zebulon put up more money for renovations. It could be a front, but it seems to be realistic at the same time.
Would likely either be downtown or on the old mall lot that the city bought. Mall is still well in the city limits though.
FWIW, I donât think we will get a MLB team, but I also think we do have a pretty great setup. Nashville and Charlotte both have to deal with downtown minor league stadiums and cities that probably donât want to green light another stadium (Nashville already proposed a new football stadium and just finished the soccer stadium. Charlotte will have to pony up for a footballs stadium soon). Triangle is a big baseball area, US Baseball is located here, great growth potential, Downtown South option. Fills a big southeast gap. If we had a billionaire step up (doubtful), I think it would be a home run.
Can just stop right there lmao. It ainât happening. Dead horse. Beaten to a pulp.
That is absolutely not true. Downtown Buffalo is hardly a âdead shellâ whatever that means.
Well, like I said I donât think it will happen. I just think on the flipside there is more than a 0% chance that some peg it at because of all the reasons I mentioned.
Itâs more like the Bills stadium is not leaving Orchard Park because that is where itâs been for most of the Bills existence! Can confirm though, Downtown Buffalo is a cool place. Not necessarily hustling and bustling, but then again ⌠neither is Raleigh lmao
No MLB is coming to Raleigh, Steve Malik just to find a billionaire make a relationship I could happen. Iâm sure heâll make it privately funded.
I donât really understand your belief in Malik. Iâve seen you post it around but he seems like an awful owner. Guy unsuccessfully made a bid for an MLS team and âself relegatedâ his team, the dumbest move Iâve seen in sports.
On top of that, he brought the Courage down and they were good when they had the same team, but since then heâs run them into a bottom feeder.
I want no business with Steve Malik owning a team I would actually care about.
Man. I didnât realize this Canes game would be broadcast nationally on ABC. What great exposure for our city. Watching on TV and looks like an incredible atmosphere.
But I do have to question the intermission performance. No idea who the guy was but they could not have dug into the southern red neck stereotype much deeper.
Oh yeah. Canes just scored. 3-0.
Agree. Itâs honestly a huge event for Raleigh and great exposure. Get what your saying, but at least Jake Owen is a half decent country singer with some #1 hits. Certainly could of done worse.
I very much enjoyed his performance! So Proud of of our City! âGo Canesâ!
It will show that nation and put us on the map. May help our MLB to Raleigh push.
Gary Bettman said we have the greatest atmosphere than any other team. Iâve also heard this was the highest grossing profitable outdoor game in NHL history.
