Interesting. I would have thought it was going to be integrated into the arena. I wonder if this is a temporary thing or the long-term plan.
I recall the renovation plans include a sports book, so I suspect this is temporary so they can get the $$$ rolling in.
Thatâs what I am thinking. They can go ahead and get the bets going while we wait for the arena reno. Backyard bistro is always slammed before and after games.
Dundon had talked about adding a temporary book as soon as the law passes in January. I think the assumption was that it would be somewhere at PNC but I guess that was never explicitly said.
That being said, the sports book is mentioned in the arena renovations I believe so Iâd expect both one in the arena and the Backyard Bistro in the future.
For the 2nd week in a row, NC State was only Triangle ACC school that didnât lose in football. See what I did there?
Yeah will we see investment in them.
GO WOLFPACK!!!
Given that NHL teams play twice as many regular-season games as MLS teams do, and their playoff series are best-of-seven rather than single-game, and these are all per-game averages, these numbers make a lot of sense.
I posted the following in this thread more than four years ago, and it still checks out:
MLS is not a Ponzi scheme, because in a Ponzi scheme early investors are showered with above-market-rate returns, which MLS has never done. Rather, MLS is essentially WeKickâlike WeWork, but for minor league soccer.
ShockingâŚâŚâŚyet another âcityâ is building their sports stadiumâŚâŚ.where???..âŚohâŚ.downtownâŚâŚ.shocking
Best part is they are moving Raleighâs âminor leagueâ teamâŚ.to WilsonâŚâŚ
But heyâŚâŚI am sure we are getting a major league baseball stadiumâŚâŚdowntownâŚâŚ.Apex!!!
You mean Zebulonâs minor league team?
Iâve been to a couple of mud cats games. It was enjoyable and reasonably priced, but the stadium is in the middle of nowhere. I wonât lose any sleep if the team relocates to Wilson.
The quotation mark and period buttons on your computer are broken
Good comparison. The issue with the MLS is that the teamsâ revenues and profitability are misaligned with the valuations of the teams. Sure there are the teams in LA or Miami that are profitable or even extremely so, but most lose money. Given that they are locked in that Apple TV deal for the next 10 years, revenue from media rights will be somewhat fixed. So merchandising and ticket sales will have to be the primary other sources of revenue while player costs go up.
For most of these teams, what will happen first, build a brand and revenue/profitability that actually realizes their current valuations, or investors get tired of funding losses and sell their stakes at a lower valuation
Yeah itâs not like Zebulon is at all convenient from DTR. At least itâs moving to a real city.
âWhy is downtown Raleigh struggling, weâre spending money on the dullest of city facilitiesâa value engineered convention center but also letâs make PNC Arena area the new downtown.â â City of Raleigh
Bringing the Mudcats to downtown Raleigh shouldâve happened a long time ago. Now itâs never happening. Either Raleigh gets MLB and/or MLS or itâs always going to be lacking something.
Durham already has minor league baseball, and one of the best parks and brands in the country. Weâll only get baseball if itâs MLB.
If anything, this probably helps get a minor league team downtown since now there wonât be one nearby in Zebulon. (if MLB doesnât happen)
Yeah but it was the 45 minute rule for minor league team. I think Raleigh should do the same PNC is doing to Downtown south. But should use downtown and DTS as an infill entertainment area. Stadium could still be there and we can claim it as DT.
Ethos is why public-private partnerships are the answer that what Iâm hoping Dundon does with MLB.
Doesnât Durham still get a veto? Or has that changed since they reconfigured the minors
