So I watched the first period, and was not impressed. I switched and watched something else. I turned it back on to check in about midway through the 3rd period, saw they were still down 0-2, and went to bed. Only to wake up to find out they won…

What a comeback! Two tight games that could have gone either way. Go Canes!!

The screen was actually larger, but for some reason the game was being displayed in a 4:3 aspect ratio (like an old tube TV) instead of 16:9, which the screen was wide enough to support. As a result, the actual picture size ended up being about the same as it was for the first game. Not sure why the AV team didn’t adjust the aspect ratio to take advantage of the full screen.

Another take on the lack of Stanley Cup Finals/Canes signage at RDU. Worth a quick watch I think.

This is exactly what I was saying about lighting up the skyline of DTR and NH. It shows community pride in our teams, it unifies the City and surrounding areas. It says, we support our local teams. It sets the stage for how we would support future (MLB? or MLS?) teams in the area.

I saw this on FB and laughed, but thought it was appropriate.

Yeah I talked about this with people last night. Boo hoo that there’s no signage at the airport to welcome the 6 Vegas fans who actually made the trip. If all of the buildings had been red longer, no one would be having this discussion rn, be honest with yourself. It’s not really about anything other than the airport (irrelevant IMO) and the buildings (city doesn’t even control private buildings so idk what you expect). That’s so trivial to me. And no I don’t want the freaking logo on a building either, maybe a player but not the logo without winning the darn thing yet.

What makes a place a hockey town isn’t any of this superficial stuff! It’s created by people actually caring about hockey and showing out which is exactly what we are doing. The togetherness we’re witnessing is beautiful and unlike any other phenomenon in the triangle. If you can’t feel this, I’m not sure you’re alive.

Btw, I don’t even think WRAL lit up their tower on Western red.

Completely agree! And the enthusiasm this area has for the Canes has been amazing and wonderful to watch. We watched the local news after the game last night (which I haven’t done since covid), and seeing all the different people just so filled with joy and excitement was incredible. Win or lose, this has been great for our area.

Unrelated, but I’ve been enjoying the shots during the games of downtown Raleigh, the Lenovo watch party, and the arena lit up red. It also struck me how cool it would be if the exterior arena upgrades were done already…really great chance to show it off. I guess we’ll just have to get back to the finals again in a year or two!

You know what they say about opinions…

For me, I wasn’t 1 of the “6 Vegas fans” who actually made the trip. I was 1 of probably many hundreds of not thousands of Canes fanes who made the trip, and I would have LOVED to have seen the entire airport covered in Stanley Cup and Canes “stuff”. Even walking around downtown it just feels half-assed. Not trying to be negative, in fact I’m hoping my 2 cents has any impact at all and we can do better for game 5.

I realize also the amount of time to prepare for something like this is extremely short and nobody is spending the money and maybe not even the time preparing artwork until the final pairing is confirmed. Vegas has had a few more days to prepare so I’m curious if we see any evidence of them “doing more”. I bet they absolutely at least have digital displays proudly showing their participation in the Stanley Cup Finals.

The thing with digital billboards, and our airport has many, is the time to display is hours, not days or weeks and the labor is practically nill. Nothing was done there, zero effort evident, and that’s disappointing.

And that’s my take, partially opinion.

I watched last night at the Rialto, and people were literally taking their shirts off when we scored in overtime LOL. The place went absolutely bonkers, so I can only imagine what it was like at the Lenny

The point of the video, and my point as well if it wasn’t made has nothing to do with the fans of the Canes. I think we have established we have a lot of passion for our only pro team and we can get LOUD all over town! Merch sales are probably hitting records and it’s no surprise to me to see Canes logos wondering around Key West from time to time. I see as much of that as I do NC State, Duke and UNC logos.

And maybe we aren’t “trying” to be a “hockey town”, whatever the actual definition of that is, but can we claim that if we don’t even have institutional efforts of places like RDU putting even the slightest effort dropping a Canes logo on a display with the Stanley Cup?

Not doing it doesn’t mean we suck as a city or people, LOL, but it does show room for improvement. Raleigh and the area, even seeing enthusiasm from Charlotte is so amazing and I love being a small part of this season’s run!

And don’t think MLB isn’t watching…
