I also wonder if they’re jumping across Wilmington Street. Development down both Wilmington and S Saunders would be a huge difference in making the DT connection

God I’d love for them to take that RedRoof Inn property as well. By the time Kane and Malik are done with their project, that thing’s going to be more of an eyesore than it already is.
While we lament that this stadium site isn’t technically in DT proper, the Panther’s owner is pushing to move their HQ, operations, orthopedic medicine facility, and practice fields 30 miles south and across the state line into South Carolina. Things could be worse.
They do waste removal from construction sites and process for other uses. Concrete and brick get crushed into an aggregate product that is quite terrible. Not suitable for anything structural.
Okay, I am now able to get into iMaps from this computer, which is much better than trying to do this from memory. I had thought that the Reclamation properties didn’t border the Penny properties, but it turns out they do! It looks like they own about 11 to 12 acres (that stuff north of Bluff St. is all owned by the city), so that would get you most of the way there.
So, yeah, now that I’m actually looking at the map (and I had a chance to drive by this evening), I agree that this could very well be part of what Kane is talking about. And if so, that would also be interesting, if in a very different way. A development that spanned both sides of Saunders would be a lot like North Hills, which obviously spans both sides of Six Forks. But building a cohesive development that surrounds both sides of the greenway would be something very different indeed. It would certainly be an interesting challenge/opportunity.

The owner of North Carolina FC, Steve Malik, and John Kane will have a press conference on June 25th to talk about a transformative project for Downtown Raleigh. This “transformation” will be the mixed-use soccer stadium project that both of them have been collaborating on for the southern part of downtown.

I have been told something similar by folks involved in some of the potential development around the site as well. Was just told that an “announcement” of some sort was scheduled for the 24th or 25th at some “event”.
Here’s hoping it is something new and not just confirmation of what we already know!
