Use mass transit no reason for parking lots all stadiums don’t really have parking not even the QC
Now can someone tell me the property by Kinsley Street owned by the city or state cause unlike the state the city would get it over with buying it or selling it unlike the state with the old MLS expansion stadium the state didn’t do jack but use the timeline oh “Well look at it” or “We seemed for it but, there was to many moving parts”.
Yeah not enough parking down town yet
Building the Stadium over the tracks would certainly boost the use of mass transit? How awesome would that be? We’d get a boost to the trains and wouldn’t need the extra parking!!
I’d temper expectations on view, I just visited a few mins ago and it slopes off more than I expected
. As you can see in the pic you’d probably only see things from top deck unless the warehouse area (west of Salisbury) goes quite a bit taller than it is now and these two sites in front of performing arts center go as tall as we hope.Setting aside the matter of getting patrons in and out, it would seem challenging to get everything else (public safety, etc.) in and out as well since it’s hemmed in by pretty heavy thoroughfares on most sides. Not impossible, but tougher than you’d think from a first glance at a (flat) map.
Or, just pay for parking, as people in almost every downtown in the U.S. need to do at all times.
::taps microphone:: Is this thing on?
There is already a building planned for this location. You can read about it right here at this link. https://www.citygatewayraleigh.com/
Even if there weren’t already a building planned for this location, the site is only 5.9 acres, and you cannot fit an MLB stadium on 5.9 acres. An MLB stadium definitely needs at least nine acres, almost certainly at least ten acres; this is not even close to that. It is literally not physically possible to build an MLB stadium on this plot of land.
You cannot build a stadium over railroad tracks because it would encroach on the NCRR’s right-of-way, and they defend those ROWs tooth and nail.
Why would you even want to build a stadium whose only at-grade street connectivity was one alleyway that dead-ends in center field?
There are over 44,000 parking spaces in Dowtown Raleigh
That project is dead. Developers now back to the drawing board for new ideas. (Source is personal knowledge of the project)
Hmm… they just recently submitted for extending Kinley St to MLK Jr. Blvd and reconfiguring that McDowell interchange a little. Is that part of their new plans?
Not 100% sure about site plans, but yes I think the hope is for Kindley St to be extended no matter what. The plans for the specific building only died within the last two weeks or so…
Huh. That would be some pretty big news if that’s the case. I had noticed that things seemed to be moving very, very slowly on that project.
Could you cross-post that in the City Gateway thread? That would definitely be of interest there. Thanks for the tip!
But as for stadium discussions, the land is still privately owned, and will almost certainly be developed well before any plausible timeline for attracting an MLB team (and that’s before getting to the fact that the footprint is way too small).
Honestly… the renderings were ugly AF so I’m not mad about that particular project being dead. Plus, with the renewed interest in this general area (from CC recommending selling the Mem. Auditorium lots for tall/mixed-use dev. and the “Park City South” dev. being approved, and now the height limits removed, I’m hoping for something a little bigger and more grande for this site.
I kind of liked the renderings, actually (there’s no accounting for taste, I guess), but, yeah, with everything going on in this area, I’m sure something very nice will ultimately get built on this plot before too long, so no big loss if the developers really are going back to square one here.
Good point Jake - I wonder if the developer decided to go bigger here actually (height and sqft wise) due to recent developments in the area
Glad to hear they are going to work on the streets there. It is a weird little isolated location that could definitely use better/more connections with the surrounding area.
I would hope they get rid of the McDowell/Western interchange completely and make an intersection and then extend Kindley down to either MLK or McDowell. This will make that are much cleaner imo.
Summary? I don’t pay for N&O.
Instead of tl;dr its tc;cr. (Too cheap; can’t read)
Not actually bagging on you for being cheap, I also can’t read it and would love a summary.
