It’s a parking garage for buses until American SUVs get so big that the city needs to transition it to general parking.

A bit more signage now.

The “directory” here indicates more room for more transit agencies/companies. But won’t GoTriangle and GoRaleigh be the only ones to ever serve this facility? (I.e., no Grayhound)

Maybe non-grayhound Amtrak or NCDOT buses?

It’s very surprising that the signage is already up. On the projects I work on, the signage is usually one of the very last things.

I thought they designed it without Coach Buses in mind generally.

Maybe GoTriangle isn’t going to use Go+ as their BRT brand, so it’s going to be Go+ and whatever GoTriangle decides as a BRT brand?

I’m guessing they’re gonna try to tie in GoCary + possibly work with NCSU for a Wolfline connection.

It’s also worth noting that Wolfline’s operator contract expires in the Summer of 2027. They may try to get the operator contract or try and get a new route to the station in part of the contract.

As long as they get some bendy buses for their route to centennial with the new lease, I’ll be happy. The regular ones get so insanely full all the time. Even Duke has some!

I heard the same thing (probably on here) but I can’t keep from hoping that they can “make it work” somehow nonetheless. Making RUS the city’s hub for intercity buses just makes a lot of sense, or it does to me anyway.

What is the difference between a center for coach buses vs transit buses anyway? Is it the platforms? I know Greyhound usually has bays where the bus has to back out, but there’s no reason they couldn’t also use a transit bus bay. Is it something about the size of the buses, or turning radius? Or is it just about the ancillary facilities like the waiting room or luggage handling?

Did they… get the GoRaleigh sign wrong? The colors look right, but the text says GoTriangle.

I noticed this walking past today, no idea :woman_shrugging: I know there’s some on this board who advocate the merging of GoTriangle and GoRaleigh.

Coach buses are taller and have different turning radi. Looking at the platforms themselves they seem like one big platform instead of a lot of smaller ones, so I don’t know if they’d have layover space either.

I haven’t been to a shared Greyhound/Transit station in many years and a Greyhound station in 2 years. I also don’t know how Flix wants Greyhound to change.

Durham, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem are all shared greyhound/transit depots so it’s not anything unusual even in Raleigh’s in-state peer cities. Googling it I think Wilmington does this too.

Durham and Greensboro have back-out spots, while I believe Winston-Salem has more transit-style sawtooth bays. Greensboro’s bus center is of course built into the train station, and in Durham it’s fairly close, on the other side of the tracks.

They’ve already got signage for hotel parking in the Acorn and they still haven’t begun the project.

All the buses on college campuses in North Carolina are PACKED. Even at UNC Charlotte. Charlotte has a very consolidated campus, and yet buses like the silver bus were so busy they had to create an express bus so they could run more frequencies in addition to the 4 buses already running the route.

The bendy 60’ buses might not be able to fit in some places on state’s campus though. Some of the roads on state’s campus are very… interesting

I would be one of those advocates. However, I’d want it to go beyond GoRaleigh and GoTriangle merging. All the sub brands (GoRaleigh, GoApex, GoCary, GoDurham) should ALL run under GoTriangle together. Creates a uniform transit company rather than each little branch trying to do their own thing

Right as I got the notification for your response, I posted on Bluesky about this :joy:

I don’t really trust that unified regional agency would fund Raleigh to the same level that we would individually. I think back to Seattle and Sound Transit 3. I think that transit in that region changed mostly on the back of the Levy to Move Seattle, instead of any of the Sound Transit referendums. They keep trying to pass a county wide measure, but it keeps falling apart since they feel like they wouldn’t get support. Sound Transit 2 and 3 are good and will help over time but Move Seattle is why King County Metro started winning. Pierce County and Snohomish County would not have voted for it, and they wouldn’t have FOMO, leading them to invest in their Bus and BRT systems.

You could unify the brands but not the operations which I think would lead to customer confusion in the market. Since GoApex operates a very different kind of service than GoRaleigh does. So, if they’re both labeled GoTriangle, I could easily see someone getting confused when they see the service in Apex operated under the GoTriangle brand. It’s very useful to know what I’m getting into when I get on a vehicle.

I do sometimes wish they’d work to unify their route numbering. So that their route numbers don’t collide and saying Route 1, would mean Route 1 regionally but I think that would get dicey politically. I also wouldn’t mind more combined branding. Like saying GoCary, a GoTransit service on advertising. I also think it promotes pride in the individual cities of the triangle, since it shows ownership of their local agency.
