The developers (Hoffman) have until September 2027 to secure funding for the housing portion of the project. They already owe GoTriangle (really Wake Transit Program) $8 million for overbuilding the existing station.
Good-ish news, unrelated to private development, the station is currently at 20% capacity with 8,400 monthly passengers thus far.

I might agree with this IF Kane owned the land or was 100% over the actual construction, but this property is beholden to more than just zoning and the develop is jumping through the hoops they’re handed unfortunately. And I haven’t heard anything new on this in quite a while.
Think most people unfortunately do not appreciate just how much time is required to design, permit, and finance a project of this type. Think years, not months.
Last update I saw was back in the summer as Hoffman and Associates (vertical developer) was proposing a payment in lieu for their affordable housing component, which Council approved.
Dates in that article included a 2027 target “groundbreaking” and a 2030 completion with the project currently in design and financing, although I believe the developer was required to begin payments in 2025 under the terms of their lease.

Yeah, last time I tried going up there (before the fence went up) it looked pretty sketchy. There was nearly a whole step missing.

Well that didn’t age well. I guess it’s just spalling on the rebar on one step. Everything else look ok?

Even the second step from the top is beginning to crumble. I fear what the rest of the building may do!

Steel and concrete stairs outside are not expected to be a forever solution. The nature of both materials exposed to the weather together is a recipe for an eventual replacement. Steel rusts and concrete breaks down. Should they have failed this quickly? Probably not. Is it completely unexpected? No. That said, the stair may have been improperly detailed, built, or both.
