RDU Expansion/2040 Master Plan

Yeah, I’d very selfishly like that one back but I suppose it’s just another ripple in the ‘next normal’…

Looks like RDU is adding a nonstop to Reykjavik, Iceland next May four days a week:

I’m actually super pumped for this. I went to Iceland a few years ago and made a few great local connections, I will be going back. Excited I don’t have to connect to DC or NY now!

Besides direct trips to Iceland this will be great budget connection to many places in Europe

This is off topic but shame on Hallmark.

Fun to see this on here — this is my day job! We’re still laughing over it.

We have a new webpage with some more detail about the Reykjavik flight: http://www.rdu.com/icelandair.

I can’t wait for RDU to blast Icelandic language announcements.

Ever listen to Scandinavian rally drivers during a race?

If they don’t address the announcements with the same level of excitement as the 2016 Icelandic European Championships announcer, then I’m not going

We got a little introduction

Well so much for 5G service at the airport. RDU on the list for 5G buffer zone.

And this is a thing because why?

I could be convinced with a study that shows real data on interference. I’ve never seen credible evidence of frequency interference with FCC approved devices. If there is, the FCC is failing at their responsibility around frequency planning and device certification.

Sorry, I should clarify: what I meant was, why are FAA 5G buffer zones a thing? They’ve had a long time to prepare for this.

The “prepare” would involve developing new instruments and upgrading planes and airport equipment. Replacing perfectly good instruments just so cell phone users can play games and watch movies while waiting at airport is a bit much. That is about only reason need 5G other than have to have it because it’s the greatest/newest toy on the block. BTW if totally addicted to movies and games and will go into withdrawal fits and die without them, use airport wi-fi. Sorry it sounds rude but some times enough is enough. Cell phone’s “New and better” has already been allowed to screw up TV, Ham, CB and even some police radios that I can remember off top of head. Also the latest 5G band exclusion is only a few miles around the airports. Personally my over the air digital channels went from 14 to 4 after TV was forced to give up bands to cell. Btw only in last year have I had access to cable TV and fiber internet for streaming service and still do not have usable cell signal, have to use wi-if for cell phone.

Read a book, you will love it

Fair enough. Just seems like a critical place where you’d want the best connectivity is all. I usually prefer getting a drink at the airport myself, so the phone generally stays in my pocket anyway.

Not touching this one, thanks.
