Red Hat Amphitheater and Outdoor Music

Emergency evacuation would be my first question about a rooftop location. Cost would be the second.

It can and has been done before: The Rooftop at Pier 17 in NYC comes to mind … but that’s roughly half the size of what’s envisioned for RHA, plus it’s in NYC where nearly infinite real estate money is available to do extremely ambitious things.

(I still haven’t heard anyone address the question of the block south of South Street…)

As @orulz just stated, it has been done before in NYC. Someone posted on here about another city in America (I think in the Midwest?) that has a rooftop amphitheater as well, a few months ago. I can’t find the post though. I’m not even saying that Raleigh should build one, per se. I’m just saying they should at least make it known that they CONSIDERED it.

Can you even imagine how heavy 7000 people people with a stage and seating would be on top of the convention center? Not at all saying it couldn’t be done. Just saying how expensive would that be? And what if someone got hurt and needed medical attention or a fire broke out? Seems a little more complicated than an outdoor venue as proposed. Just IMHO.

Elevating it would be noisier. They’d still complain.

Egress is absolutely (likely) the biggest consideration and cost factor.

I don’t think anyone on here is qualified nor has the visibility to answer that. I’d love to know that same answer to

in context to putting the amphitheater on the roof.

They would complain if it was wrapped in gold with pearls.

How is egress from a rooftop amphitheater any different then egress from PNC arena or any football stadium.

Cody may be an issue. But not egress.

I am not the rooftop building expert so I will have to leave that to someone else. I am sure if the city has the $$$$ then someone can give them whatever they want with whatever egress they need.

The City Council meeting is live (Tuesday 1:00 PM)

Oh Boylan… watching the Red Hat session. Go figure!! The city already looked at all the options you are screaming about. NIMBYs.

Listening to the presentation by the committee that planned this, you can tell that she’s done an insane amount of work here and is completely pissed off at the idea that there’s a viable alternative with the budget we have.

obvious from the presentation today to city council they were NOT
“slapping this together in a month"

Are the voting today or continuing?

“THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO DO THIS WITHOUT CLOSING SOUTH STREET OR WE LOSE THE AMPITHEATER”

She made the development team repeat this twice.

Can we shut up about other options now?

Vote isn’t until next month.

By my calculation, the closet alternative of a reworked design was 23 million more. Why is council even entertaining this shitshow?

3D render of the future amp, if approved.

Looks kind of like the covered seating at Walnut Creek sans the lawn.
