Red Hat Amphitheater and Outdoor Music

Is it not that Red Hat is starting this year and finishing next year, but the whole project with the cc expansion finishing in 2028? That’s what we were told. And the Omni I thought was starting soonish and finishing in 2028 also, with the cc.

3ish years for a 300ish foot tower with integrated parking, hotel, large retail spaces, rooftop pool and patio, and a large conference center (as I believe was also part of it) seems reasonable to me. Especially if they also extend Fayetteville St as part of this project (which would also make sense to do during construction).

The powers that be can make things happen if it is important to them. I think this is an important project for the City. I’ve watched several twenty story buildings go up in no time. So I am rooting for the convention center, RH and Omni Hotel. I think that 2028 is doable.

I agree, an extension of Fayetteville St would transform the core of downtown.

Do you mean extend it through the concert center parking lot?

If Fayetteville was extended, it would largely replace the pedestrian approach and planters that exist there now.

I’m hopeful that the Omni and some (eventual) development on the other block of parking at this end of Faye is the activation needed. No reason to extend the car traffic once these zones have people mulling about consistently.

Yeah we’re assuming Fayetteville is extended, but that has never been in the plans/renderings if I recall correctly. They’re planning to keep it somewhat as-is (pedestrian only) with a facelift.

I hope it doesn’t take several more years to get started. Durham is already planning for a nearly 500,000-square-foot convention center downtown, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they pursue an amphitheater next. If that happens, Raleigh will be at a serious disadvantage when it comes to entertainment amenities—especially considering we haven’t seen any major entertainment development in 15 years.

If we’re spending $75 million to help a build a hotel why not work with Marbles to build a new IMAX theater center? Especially since Marbles is hinting at moving out of downtown.

Either way as far as downtown development goes this appears to be COVID Year 5.

Based on what has already happened in preparation for both expansion projects, I doubt it will.

What happened to Marbles’ countless expansion plans? :face_with_monocle:

…this would be news to me. When/where was this hinted? Last I saw, they’re adding MORE stuff to Marbles

Hmm might have been old news but I could have sworn they were complaining about issues and considering their option to relocate with a development partner. I guess nvm.

Whatever those rumblings were they were before Marbles started their plans for the Blount Street courtyard/second floor so I’m guessing they’re staying put.

maybe they could put a howl emitting from it for certain events

Newly (I think?) released render from the Raleigh Downtown Instagram account.

Still think it’s backwards (wish you could see the skyline as the backdrop of the stage), but I’m sure it’ll still be a cool venue.

Definitely somewhat of a VE downgrade, but just glad to see it moving forward and staying downtown for the long haul.

It’s still a gazillion times better than the existing RedHat.

Yeah I’m not convinced anything changed with this rendering, it’s just a different version and not as detailed. It looks great.

Looks like the stump of South St will be maintained for truck access to the back of the venue. If they’re permanently closing South St, I wish the city could’ve preserved and combined these two lots to sell for redevelopment, but alas.

I wonder how visible trains will be if they roll by during a show. That could be a pretty unique aesthetic to our venue compared to anywhere else, I believe. It’s the little things.
