Wasn’t the new amphitheater originally supposed to open this year? If so, maybe the art was ordered to coincide with that, and it was ready on time but the rest of the amphitheater got delayed.
So the hand isn’t early, everything else is late.

Durham’s downtown entertainment and architecture kicks Raleigh’s butt right now. Our leaders better get it together quick. We can barely keep up with a city 1/3 the size. We need something creative, that reflects the city’s true spirit outside of an acorn.
We are at the Snow White ballet right now. It’s great but DPAC eats our lunch. It’s a shame.
Raleigh may feel a bit more cosmopolitan than Durham, however we lack the essence of what makes a genuine major city. We can literally take notes from small towns concerning urbanism at this point.
Not that hard to get to Durham tho. It’s as much home as Cary or Raleigh to me. May as well be north hills. Different node of our area.
I agree! I enjoy all of what The Triangle has to offer, with each of its many cities offering something a bit different. Not a competition, in my opinion. I relish what each city has to offer and what makes them unique. We’re all part of a diverse metro area that is closing in on 2.5 million people. At least that is how I feel.
Great shot, and you got a lot of steps in!

5+ miles worth every single day for nearly 5 straight years now.
That’s over 9,000 miles, more than the distance from Reykjavik to Vladivostok. And you spent it looking at Raleigh. Booo

Well, Friday and Saturday included Winston-Salem, and Sunday was Asheville and Pisgah National Forest…..
So……
ooooo jealous of you!!! I need to plan my next WNC hiking trip but literally JUST moved so life’s been a bit hectic for that, at the moment.
I was thinking this was going to be a part of the new RHA.. will it be moved there? Seems odd to build this at the old one a year or two before it’ll be demolished.
The amphitheater is a year behind schedule, the Mona Lisa was on schedule so luckily, we get to enjoy that early.
Yeah and it just has to be uninstalled and moved to the new spot. Shouldn’t be that hard to do hopefully.
City of Raleigh should offer old Red Hat to the Hurricanes for viewing the away playoff games (if RHA I is siting empty on those many days). I think the RHA I is booked through the summer with many empty venue days. Offer Free admission. Open concessions to pay for staffing & clean up. Do we have a giant excellent quality screen or will Dundon kick in. Other teams have local live shots during games. Raleigh=barbecue grill.
Although, the city cannot coordinate flushing the city red when local teams excel.
Step up City.
