Residential Infill along New Bern - Edenton

Confirmed with the builder that this will be Taco Roos. Sounded like when work starts on BRT, Cookout might move buildings (they own both properties) bc the city will need part of their property for the roads. According to the Yelp reviews, it’s basically a cookout menu with tacos added.

thanks for the update!

I’m incredibly surprised another Taco Roos is being built. There was a Taco Roos built back a few years ago in Wilmington when I lived there, and it was just kind of a stealth Cook-Out. They served normal Cook-Out food but also a 'Walking Taco", literally just a bag of Doritos with taco meat put inside.

Over the first 6 months or so of it opening they slowly removed any mention of Taco Roos in the branding until they finally took the sign down and put an actual Cook-Out sign up. The whole saga was very confusing.

Agreed. I think it’s a roundabout way of keeping their store open, leading to combining Cookout/TacoRoos before eventually selling their corner lot for a profit once BRT and East Raleigh take off. (Total speculation)

The new Cookout in Knightdale also has those walking taco things.

I don’t go to Cook Out as often as I used to and was really confused when I saw a “Walking Taco” on the menu at the one on Western the other night. Is this a new thing?
I’ve vaguely heard the name “TacoRoos” before but had no idea the company had any relation to them.

Taco Roos is further along that I expected!

what I don’t get is why would they put this right next to Cook out, is it competition or synergistic?

Isn’t this that bar/retail plaza concept that @UncleJesse has been posting (I think it was you…)?

EDIT: it’s not! @broughtonwc found the info below

I believe he was referring to 1601 New Bern which I haven’t seen any movement on. This is a mile closer to downtown between Cook and Swain. If anyone has any updates on 1601 that would be great, too.

That is one of my drycleaning project sites, but I don’t have any info on any pending redevelopment.

This little retail strip needs to stay and could use some love. If that’s what’s coming, then I’m really eager to see what’s next.

It looks like it’s owned by “MyDogSammie Rentals LLC”, the officers of which are the founders of Alter Ego Salon.

I’m really going to try and make this one.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations are planned along New Bern Avenue. The following zoning changes are proposed along the future New Bern Avenue Bus Rapid Transit route:

  • Add the Transit Overlay District (TOD) to the zoning map
  • Increase allowed building height and uses along the route
  • Require walkable development in core areas around transit routes
  • Incentivize the inclusion of affordable housing units in new buildings

You are invited to discuss the proposed zoning changes. Attend a neighborhood meeting on:

Does anyone know what the development is that is going at the corner of King Charles and New Bern? It used to be a church but they demolished it recently. Assume it’s in this thread somewhere but can’t locate
