Ok you’re right lol, modern trucks are ridiculous. Then again this encourages owners of said trucks not to live here, so I still like it. Folks that need them can still park them at their landscaping or contracting business.
I’m glad you popped back in after 6 months with that gem…
I live in a place with a similar garage alley - my neighbor has a full size pickup that cannot fit - always parked on the street - luckily we live on a side street with ample parking around and right out front. Not an option on this one.
When I lived there, there was room for at least an average size car in the garage. One dude had a Rivian but could not close his garage door with it in there. Not a big deal entering and exiting, just had to watch out for the high AF Transfer workers. Those townhomes on New Bern look more difficult.
Spotted today at the (former?) Hargett St Laundromat building… KOTA homebuilders?
No clue here. I was hoping for a bodega personally.
This is the only other reference I find to them online: https://www.ziprecruiter.com/c/KOTA-Home-Builders/Job/Project-Superintendent/-in-Raleigh,NC?jid=66038f067530f7f4
And the founder: Jonathan W. Graban - Founder - Kota Home Builders | LinkedIn
Edit: I’m probably getting way too nosy for basically no reason but it looks like a new name for JW Builders (https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_nc/1463969). Assuming the portfolio on that site is correct I actually recognize some of those houses.
In retrospect this feels like the most gentrificationy thing to take over that retail spot lol, maybe more than a $8/taco joint. Banking on some fancy modernist new builds in the area?
It is always a disappointment when offices go into what could be a nice retail/food spot for the neighborhood. This wont be of value to anyone in the vicinity. Glad its getting fixed up though.
Huh. Ok. People already play pickleball at the tennis courts on Tarboro pretty frequently, but I guess the trend is still strong enough to demand more venues?
I would feel a bit safer at this proposed location than the Tarboro one.
Kind of silly, but activating a parking lot downtown with a physical activity is a huge win.
That was my first reaction. At least it’s not parking.
Oh yeah, no complaints about the upgrade, I guess I just thought the pickleball trend was on the wane.
Also, ya’ll, I grew up here and I got the whole New Bern caution spiel, I went to Enloe and walked to Cookout for lunch, etc. I think a good bit of that is becoming outdated for the Tarboro area now that I live like, two blocks away. It’s not the quiet Cary experience I had growing up, but I don’t perceive the tennis courts where a bunch of folks play bike polo every week adjacent to a growing list of gentrified renovations as particularly unsafe. I mean, I’ll admit I meet a panhandler basically every time I get gas on that corner, but even with my social anxiety I still get out there.
Now, I’m not saying all of New Bern is pickleball territory. I mean, I probably wouldn’t go on foot past the Alamo. But I dunno, the area is changing.
Yup. I walk my dog around there every so often and it’s fine. Obvious caveat that I’m a tall man, so not an obvious street crime target, but there’s quite a few newer houses sprinkled in and it generally feels like a normal gentrifying neighborhood.
I agree; investing in physical activity is an absolute plus. Maybe once the sidewalks are placed down New Bern, people will feel more comfortable. I live on Albemarle and the incidents we hear about are not happening on our street. We have many children riding bikes, people walking dogs and daddies pushing babies in strollers. The bad parts are really in pockets and I have hope those people will get the help they need for those ares to change.
Great use of an abandoned lot. Should be doing more things like this
I agree, we need to have more neighborhood play grounds, pools, and community gardens replace empty lots.
Agree. Especially on pools. Need to bring back the public pools to cities
Oh man, there’s a pool adjacent to Roberts park that’s abandoned on a large plot of land. I believe it’s private property, but my secret hope is it gets revitalized someday. Neighborhood pools are one thing I’m a little jealous of my Holly Springs friends for.
Agree - people can make fun of pickleball but the courts in Raleigh are always full and it gets people outside doing something active that they can do all year. Not that different from giving kids a skate park to go to. Haven’t been to Jaycee Park in forever, but those sand volleyball courts used to get a lot of use. Love this sort of stuff for the city!
