But where are the pickleball players going to park now that the parking lot is gone?
Pickleball is all about the ambience. Need parking for the Tahoe, clean restrooms (Depends are not worn during play). Air conditionied lounge to solve world problems. This is NOT the place for Pickleball. Downtown Raleigh good for stuff like illegal dirt bike riding and porch pirating but leave the Pickleball to the suburbs and beyond.
I love they are keeping the bud light sign over the door. That will keep some of the vintage/old raleigh charm everyone complains about losing!!
This might be in the thread somewhere, but is there any speculation on what’s going to end up in these spots?
I notice a few days ago while driving down Edenton some new yard signs in opposition of the TOD. Is this just a few neighbors who put these up or is there opposition group actively protesting the changes with a petition website etc. Just curious about their view points. I live just down the street in the TOD and haven’t seen anyone coming around or flyers or anything about it.
Is the cleaners that is still there staying?
I wouldn’t be surprised since all the other near by cleaners closed down over the last years.
Think they are staying…with some upgrading renovations.
Lots of rumors on corner space……
Speculation is a bar/restaurant concept coming to the Carver Street side. Coffee shop is another rumor for further down
Sounds great for me. What kills me though is that this would be a 10 minute walk from my front door… but only if I want to cross in the middle of New Bern.
That’s maybe why I’m so hopeful for the BRT work. New Bern is a pedestrian nightmare once you get past Tarboro. They’ll have a hard time getting any foot traffic from the south or west until that’s fixed. I’ll restrain here from speculating why it’s like that today.
I’ve wanted a good walkable coffee spot since we moved here but it may have to wait until that’s sorted. If they open anytime soon I hope they stay open long enough.
BRT is going to dramatically change the ‘pedestrian experience’ in East Raleigh/New Bern corridor…if the damn thing ever starts.
Reddit Thread about our little neighborhood.
cycling from the surrounding neighborhoods isnt too hazardous there is it?
Cycling from a transportation perspective is overall good in the neighborhoods between downtown and 440 on each side of New Bern/Edenton. Side street speeds are low and streets connect in a kinda grid for alternate paths to get to the other downtown neighborhoods. It gets hilly as the neighborhoods fall off to Walnut Creek or Crabtree Creek though, and crossing New Bern/Edenton is never convenient. Outside of 440 to the east there is less street interconnectivity and traffic speeds are higher, so it is not bike-approachable outside of the greenways.
