Yes… it was right here, in leasing their undeveloped land to developers with big pockets LMAO. How thick are some people???
Especially, that on the federal level, Biden took money away from HBCUs, and if this Supreme Court affirmative action law goes in the way of the plaintiff, black colleges are going to have a hard time operating. This real estate was they’ll last gasp for air, they’d had there lives saved
Btw, my LR tweet reply got more likes than their tweet. I realize their old white “followers” aren’t on Twitter but still fairly telling that their nonsense is getting old. All 3 of their replies were not in support of their message.
Holding it down haha.
I mean really though… What do LR and Shaw have in common? NOTHING
A “livable Raleigh” would absolutely include a vibrant and healthy downtown university, right? And this was the only way to make that a possibility. Crazy.
LR: Let’s freeze Raleigh
(Gotta come up with something better)
Here’s the RFQ for the Shaw District to potential developers:
The worst cookie cutter subdivision I’ve ever seen is in Chatham County. Gotto love the 10 minute entry approach to this Karen fortress.
Okay… What’s the deal with Livable Raleigh? Back in the day I remember the Livable Streets program which was aimed at revitalizing downtown and it seemed good… I think? Is there any relation? Or are they just hawking the name of a widely liked program to advance an insular agenda?
I read their blog and… they need a better web designer, but aside from that they’re very crafty at framing their narrative. I could see how someone just getting into local politics would fall for it.
I think a more concerted deliberate media campaign is necessary. These people came close to killing Shaw University and I feel like this needs broadcast more.
I believe it’s closer to the ‘Livable California’ group based out of San Francisco. LC was founded in 2018, LR in 2019. So, no relation between Livable Streets and Livable Raleigh in terms of naming convention. I think that’s mostly a coincidence.
I believe their target audience is the old person ‘fuck you, got mine’ crowd. So, keeping websites looking like they were built in the 90s is a feature, not a bug.
I keep ringing this bell, but Livable Raleigh is not only awful for the city (and very disingenuous), but it seems like they had some sway in who the Wake County Democratic Party endorsed last election for city council, which is a big deal as many folks will just vote for the WCDP recommendations for local offices.
Briar chapel is actually very well planed Dense, different types of housing, garages in back with very nice landscaping… 2 schools on the property . Walkable with parks and sidewalks. Tell me how this neighborhood is worse than any neighborhood in Raleigh . I’m waiting ….You are no match for the master troll.
I hope the parents enjoy shuttling their kids everywhere cause no teen is getting out of that neighborhood on their own until they get their license. Not necessarily worse than a lot of other Raleigh neighborhoods but definitely a perfect example of terrible suburban planning.
You made no argument. I suppose you would say any suburban development is bad. Kids can walk to elementary school, they can walk to the new middle school, they can even walk to Woods Charter , the highest ranked school in the state! They can walk to multiple parks, recreation fields. Can’t do a lot of that if a kid lived in downtown Raleigh . I win .
It’s a true 15 minute city… 15 extra minutes on your drive wherever you’re going. Amazing that it’s billed as a green development.
This is the endgame for Chapel Hill’s NIMBYism. Developments are simply shunted into Chatham County out of their jurisdiction, making the strain on Chapel Hill’s infrastructure even worse.
It contrasts starkly with Southern Village, another planned community that is well served by transit and greenways and has a good new urban center to it and isn’t halfway to the middle of nowhere.
Let’s get back on topic.
Just close already
Yikes, that’s rough!!! I’d be walking out if I was an employee.
The university has been struggling for years and I understand that many people for many reasons don’t want to see it close, but how much life support is too much for a dying patient? At this point it would seem to me that it’s at least a disservice to its students to make them pay tuition into an institution that can’t even promise them its existence over the course of 4 years. That is, of course, if they even graduate in 4 years. St. Augustine has an abysmal 6 year graduation rate of 21% according to US News and World Report.
In order for it to survive there is going to have to be some bold moves and action, many of which are likely out of financial reach without an angel donor(s) and likely a complete shake up of its leadership.
I’m no expert, but I’ve thought for years now that St. Augs and Shaw need to combine to strengthen their futures. Consolidate their campai (is that the correct word??). Two entities sharing common infrastructure and amenities. Otherwise, both are struggling, and both may ultimately cease to exist in the future.
At this point it’s basically an amazing track team with a failing school attached.
If it does go under, what buildings on the campus are historic and protected?
