In Miami, the 3 interlocking, lightweight monorail-ish system that currently exists is free. It supports downtown proper, and the districts immediately south (Brickell) and north (Omni/Museum Park).
I am still kicking myself for not trying this out when I was in Miami in January. DOH!
Highways are free after you buy a car and gas and fees and titles etc
Once you have They are free to use. Meaning no toll etc.
Yes there are a ton of hidden costs. But those skew the economics towards using cars for everything.
And gas taxes⌠And whatever tax theyâre gonna hit electric car drivers with.
Heat rises - gotta take advantage of the stack effect!
That would be a fantastic start - and in many ways easier to accomplish. At this point, there are number of projects that could build around it. The bus part of the RUS for example. Be pretty cool integrate a monorail stop into that building. Youâd have some great synergy going on there.
Iâm convinced all of Durhamâs super cool water features contribute massive amounts of humidity that naturally flow west into Raleigh. I donât think we really want water features in Raleigh, right?

Yes, yes we do. Raleigh needs its only, dedicated supply of humidity. As long as they trapper and arenât to dense. We donât need overly dense water in Raleigh.
Is it just me, or are all those statues of children everywhere at Southpoint really freakin creepy?
I find them very creepy.
As much as it would be cool to incorporate examples from other cities, I think Raleigh needs to have their own unique architecture and elements that other cities aspire to have.
I think most people from this community will agree with that and itâs often brought up when somebody says, âWe need something like that cityâs something.â We definitely want unique, donât want to be looked at like a copy cat, but we could also do something like another city and just do it waaaaay better. I think that would count.
Agreed. Take one cityâs ideas and make them better, and more importantly, different.
Someone on here keeps talking about a movie theater. I personally donât see the appeal, but would definitely like something like this in Hayes Valley, San Francisco. Thereâs yoga and other activities during the day and movies at night. I could see something like this in the Warehouse district
While that would be really cool, I still think we need something really unique from everyone else
I agree completely. Thatâs the reason why I created a different forum
@straggler
That would be me. I am the one that keeps wishing for a multiplex cinema. Iâm sorry that you donât see the appeal but I have experience living in a walkable district with one and itâs a huge plus. Not only can you see films without getting in your car, but you can host larger film festivals throughout the year and that generates foot traffic and tax revenues for the city. They are really valuable amenities in an urban environment and it remains on the top of my wish list.
