And the capital of Wyoming is…
Well our old Capitol is here to stay but I’m in favor of demolishing our Flea Market Emporium of a state government campus and building a tall consolidated building that is designed to last a 1,000 years and is an artistic and engineering beauty.
For example:
I made my poor family tour this one, lol.
Its like, why have a downtown at all? An office park with square blocks was utopia to those people back then I guess. Check out Albany NY’s Capital complex for a look at what NC was going for. We bought their plans so I’ve heard.
I’ve thought for a few years that 147 should be buried in the area of downtown Durham. Make a park on top to reconnect the city.
I know nothing about the construction process in Raleigh (or NYC) but I found this article interesting. Folks who have a lot more inside info about our processes might find something useful. And the library is very cool. Link to NYT column

Just voted today for the Town of Cary elections. Included was two bonds for Parks and Transportation. Look at these $50 million plans for Cary’s downtown park…
Where’s the DT in relationship to this? All I see is park in the video. Also, how are they going to do all that for $50M, or is the vote just supplemental to funds that they already have?
The park is smack center in downtown Cary. Bounded by S Academy at Kildaire Farm, Walnut, and S Walker. Right where the new water fountain is. Construction begins in Fall 2020 with completion in 2022 so it must pay for all of it.
Ugh. This looks so nice and well planned.
I’m not jealous. I’m not jealous. I’m not jealous.
I know it almost looks like it’s fake to me because it looks way too nice. It’s also interesting that the parking deck that was built in conjunction with the new library is showing condos wrapping around the deck in this park video.
Thanks for the post @TedF Wow check out the large fountain, play fountains, and water features. They have The Master Plan Report online and it has some fantastic analysis as they attempt to reconcile all the features. If Raleigh doubled the budget and did this at Dix… how cool would that be.
Wonder if their play fountain will feature a slick surface like the one at Moore Square…
I thought people would like this article on downtown and city boosters from over 100 years ago. The dude from Cincinnati cracks me up.

We need an official green belt plan but that might involve a lot of different municipalities.
Raleigh could use some better streetscaping like Columbus OH. Nice wide sidewalks and thoughtful architecture that lends itself to attractive storefronts.
Short North arches, yeah!! In the 80’s, that was a dodgy area until they built the new convention center and Nationwide Arena.
Hate that the High Street White Castle was closed, though. Hoppingest parking lot at 0200. Many late night munchie runs after finishing a shift at OSU Hospital.
