Yeah, this is in the same vein as Kalahari in Virginia (massive facility under construction south of Fredericksburg off 95 but still an hour+ from DC or Richmond). I didn’t know there was really demand for these huge convention spaces (Gaylord was the only player in this space until recently). I assume they’ve done the market research, but these still fascinate me.

I know this is a very triggering issue, however, flew down to Atlanta this weekend to visit my cousin. She was still at work so I took the train directly from the airport terminal into downtown Atlanta with just a tap of my CC. Super easy, and surprisingly quick.
I did note while walk around solo that a lot of the areas I was wandering around, the sidewalks were pretty sparsely populated. I didn’t feel threatened or anything, just a little uneasy as there just didn’t seem to be anyone around. The huge plaza in front of the Truist Plaza (303 Peachtree Street) was 100% deserted.
Another quick train ride from downtown to Decatur and I connected with my cousin. Super easy, relatively cheap and no dealing with cars and parking. I sincerely don’t understand why more people aren’t onboard with better transit options.

When I go to Atlanta, I always take MARTA from the Airport. I agree that it’s incredibly convenient and fast if you are going Downtown or Midtown.

Short visit to downtown Winston-Salem for the first time in a few years. We definitely would like to go back more frequently (direct train, please). Their reuse of the old tobacco spaces was done well, and the businesses seemed popular even on a Sunday.

Love the look of this too. Buildings are just sharp in this part of town. Especially the three “sister?” apartments up Rigsbee and adjacent to Atlas on Corporation. All great human-scaled additions.

I don’t like 5over1 construction taking over our downtowns. I’m not a fan of it anywhere, but I especially don’t like it in urban areas.

@sigma in case you’re thinking that one is a 5-over-1 and John was being facetious; that only refers to the builds that start concrete/steel on the 1st floor, then switch to all lumber for the remaining 5 (or more) floors. This one in Durham looks to be all-concrete, so it’s significantly more structurally sound and expensive of a build than a typical “5-over-1” with majority wood construction.
