It will take 20 years to build a less than adequate system. I have almost zero confidence this BRT system will be built properly. I expect nothing more than re-painting the striping and no real infrastructure.
I’m headed to RTP/Perimeter Park in about 5 minutes to meet my wife for lunch at Los Tres.
I am with you on this…
Go to and from DTR and RTP many, many, many times a month…at mid-day!
In Birmingham,AL at Pizitz Food Hall
Very cool, but not the buzz that you get at Morgan or Transfer. A couple of empty stalls also.
Transfer is King. That place is the coolest mix use, historical renovation project I’ve seen in NC. They’re opening a 200 capacity event space soon as well. Just opened the co-working space. Just awesome.
Needs a renovation, looking a little outdated. @evan.j.bost transfer is amazing. I took a quick tour over the summer at a camp and we went to the bbq place under construction and the coworkers space. We also saw the Saxaphaw grocery (didn’t go in)
Both the event space and work hall are open now. We had our DTRCAC meeting at the work hall this month. Great space!
Event space is open! (we just did a Halloween party there). @RaleighFollower Saxaphaw grocery hasn’t been built yet, but will get started as soon as the condos are completed.
EDIT: @OakCityDylan beat me to it. But yeah FYI keep on the lookout for the Transfer NYE party this year. Last year’s was wild and we had the governor in attendance. This year we’ll be utilizing the Ballroom along with the entirety of the Food Hall.
It looks like a really tired space from a 1980s mall foodcourt.
Those are just bad pics. It looks much better in person it has not been open but a year or so I think.
Transfer seems to have gotten the food court/community thing right.
The floor is unfinished or something. But thanks for the pics.
I think it’s a good choice to start with BRT. If it spurs development along those corridors maybe it will someday warrant a conversion to LRT. Hopefully ROW acquisitions in the corridors will take this into account, making a future conversion less expensive than a ground up system.
If the BRT does ever get converted to LRT, maybe the BRT rolling stock we’re using at the time could be relocated to new BRT routes to NH, Crabtree Valley, Brier Creek/RDU, or whatever the next priorities for transit development are.
Just came across this article:
Yeah I was just there and visited the Oodi. That article doesn’t show you the heaps of tourist flocking to it during the summer. It’s nice. Very much designed to handle tourists. They have a professional kitchen and cafes for the tourists. I can’t say I was extremely impressed and there’s not much space on the ground floor but better than having nothing.
I know exactly where that is. I’ve been to Helsinki several times since one of my best friends lives there.
Houston, TX. Downtown Sunday afternoon. Ghost town.
Odd place. Great ethnic diversity but few walkable areas. Nice around Rice University.
Haven’t been but Downtown St. Louis looks like a ghost town too from pictures I’ve seen.
My daughter’s dorm is just out of the picture to the left.
I hope you enjoyed your visit. There is some darn good good and foot in the 'Ham.
Downtown Houston is a lot like how Downtown LA was a decade ago: just skyscrapers surrounded by five-lane streets with no pedestrian scale or life. LA has improved a lot so it’ll be interesting to see if Houston follows it.
