Show Off Things From Other Cities

They are still waiting for the sharing economy app for trash pickup.

This could go in a couple of places, but since this is the most active of the choices, I’ll stick it here.

Chattanooga, much denser downtown than I expected. Older stock, but looks like favorable zoning to build housing wherever there is room. Lots of new duplexes being built on infill lots. Hotels downtown really add to the vibrancy. Lots of different conferences going on. Once Raleigh gets some new hotels downtown I think we will definitely see an increase in weeknight vibrancy.

Kane wanted to string lights like those across Hargett between his two blocks at The Dillon. I understand that the fire marshal shut that down.

But City Market has it. That burns me up every time I’m in another city and think about how that would have really added a lot to the WaDi. :frowning:

Why can’t we have nice things?:sob:

Durham just got them strung across W Parrish Street. I don’t know what’s up with the Raleigh fire marshal.

Is this an “Okay Boomer” situation?

Raleigh’s cranes vs this one development in the La Jolla, CA area.

La Jolla was beautiful the one time I got to see it. Hope it doesn’t catch fire like everything else in California :pensive:

If you ever need a creative way to re-use ruins of old buildings (…hopefully, the San Diego area won’t have to worry about this anytime soon…), Georgia Tech recently finished building a really cool idea!

I was in Louisville last weekend. DTL is greatly improved a lot over the last 30 years I have been going regularly. Its got advantages over Raleigh in that it is older and was big & busy early, while Raleigh was small & sleepy though most of its history. But a lot of the recent development is relevant to Raleigh. Like their downtown soccer stadium.

Not a great photo, i was stuck in traffic, lost, lol.
The stadium is across the downtown freeway/bridge from DTL proper, but it is in a large warehouse/industrial area called Butchertown. There is some redevelopment, but a lot of 2-3 story brick buildings, so it will be interesting to see how and if the stadium changes the area.

Wait they have an MLS team or is that just Louisville FC or whatever it’s called?

They are USL, same as NCFC. They’ve been playing in the minor league baseball field, which is nice as well, but are getting a dedicated soccer stadium that will seat 11,000 permanently, but up to 14,000.
For more details here is the link.

Opposite of showing off, Charlotte’s Epicenter has been so rife with crime including two shootings recently that it will be converted to office and some retail spaces.

Compared to the AT&T facility in Raleigh. Lol

Coronado Island, CA

I’m not certain that looking like an abandoned and/or poorly maintained suburban, neo “Spanish” style site is an improvement.

image Kind of like the Pump Station House on Wade. In theory, not in style.

Well, it definitely fits the local style and doesn’t look like a data center/switch site, and has character, not a concrete massing.

This is worse than atrocious. I’d stick with the one we have, also that’s a small building for AT&T.
