Once they get big enough, the trees will block most of the view.
True⦠and getting way off topic⦠if they really wanted to see this whole main street view, they should build a observation deck as part of the new fire station headquarters project.
Imagine paying for a N&O subscription. This is the kind of ājournalismā your premium is supporting. The kind that fails at kindergarten level spatial reasoning.
I mean, MAYBE, this piece here will stick out some but Iām not sure this reaction is warranted at all. You can see some windows kind of coming off the building
This plan here shows a bit of a narrower space between sites 2 and 3 so thereās SOMETHING here but Iām not buying it entirely.
I mean sure seeing the performing arts center is nice but likeā¦. Itās not the freakin Eiffel Tower. Who cares
Oh Iām with you. This article just BUGS me today! Itās like someone just nitpicking over the smallest of things. There isnāt an eye roll emoji big enough to represent my reaction to this. ![]()
I just realized I could delete the N&O from my recommended links in google news and this has finally compelled me to do it.
Iām sure they care a whole bunch. No doubt they will send me an email personally to beg forgiveness. I shall endeavor to provide the cutting edge activism that perfectly matches the quality of the N&Oās content.

N&O is ran by NIMBYs and anti growth folks and yet theyāre the largest circulation in the state.
Before this project, there was a really wide view of the performing arts center on approach because it was seen across expansive surface parking lots. Folks are just going to have to get used to getting that visual release later on their approach.
Or āget a roomā (with a southern view)ā¦once the Omni opens.
Didnāt the old convention center block the performing arts center almost completely when viewed from the Fayetteville Street Mall back in the day? Raleigh isnāt Europe, we donāt have a lot of protected sightlines (IE Les Champs Elysee between Lāarch, Tuilleries, La Concorde, and the Louvre⦠par example) ![]()
I think it would be great for Site 3 to have a public, medium or large plaza to replace the former plaza being removed for the Fayetteville St. extension.
This could allow for a large enough set back to encourage the possible developer to maximize on their zoning allowance.
Yes. I remember when the Civic Center was built. It was actually really cool and modern for its day. At that time, the Performing Arts Center was just Memorial Coliseum.
Interestingly, the old civic center was imploded 20 years ago this month.
Fayetteville Street Mall!!! I love that when I was at State, then when I moved back in 2008 it was gone. ![]()
DAMN! That building looks 100x cooler than the current Convention Center, what the hell???
Wow you must be very old!
I rode by the construction of the new civic center and the Central Plaza/CP&L building on the bus home from 6th grade ā¦. It was just one of the many hooks that got me interested in building and urban design. In fact I am currently reading a book on Haussman and the rebuilding of Paris.
Not only old, but also wise. ![]()
