Those lots look huge from that angle. I realllllllly hope that whatever comes in the adjacent lot becomes Raleigh’s new tallest. If it doesn’t … well then that’d just be totally on brand for Raleigh, actually ![]()
Could someone remind me if the parking underneath the hotel will be public for the performing arts center? Or will it be accessible to hotel guests only?
Will the extension of Fayetteville St. be built in tandem with this project? Probably after the dig + underground parking is completed, if so.
I would certainly hope that’s the case.
Thank you for your contributions and participation here, @ExSF.

It’s my pleasure though I don’t get downtown for picture taking as often as I’d like. I’ll have to recruit my wife who works at the DOJ. ![]()
Passed by the Omni site earlier and there’s now a large crawler crane on site. Definitely feels like things are about to get interesting over there.
They are going to be digging that hole for so long haha. Odds we have a crane by thanksgiving?
Hey it’s progress so I’ll take it !
Looks good to me. Lets start going vertical!
Wow you have the Birds Eye view of what is going on. ![]()
Renderings for the Omni show it blocking at least part of that hallowed corridor, if not all.
City officials said Friday that viewers will still see the performance hall from Fayetteville Street, but also some hotel. So it remains unclear how much of the building erected as a memorial to World War I veterans will be obscured by upscale steak-dining, but it seems a good bet Raleigh’s postcard view will now contain at least a few guests in tuxedos and ballroom gowns exiting their parked Lexus.

This seems like a big stretch. I’d need to see the site plans showing how it lines up with the Marriott. That steak house “bump out” seems to be some outdoor seating which is perfectly fine with me.
This is the most ridiculous, half-assed rant I’ve ever seen run under the N&O, which is saying something. It tells me that Josh Schaffer can’t read a fucking map to save his life, and the people tasked with editing his work still let him fart out a column that manages to be both sanctimonious and dim-witted.
I thought, after reading this piece, it was really a chance to rant against the demise of the waterfall/light sculpture thingy that was going to be across Fayetteville St.
