Where do I send an email? I’m new to this community but would love to show support for the rezoning. Unfortunately I can’t make it tonight but would love to send an email.
Being in the room tonight where green out numbers red is a huge and pleasant surprise. If this doesn’t pass, it won’t be for a lack of YES participation both live and through prior communications from of the YES side.
Not that I should expect differently, but WRALs article on it is so frustrating. They basically just paint it as all the citizens are against it and the developers got what they wanted. There’s proponents of it in the video you posted, cmon!
Had a great showing, honestly 2-1 in favor. Even got some Yes side media coverage after. The council was prepared to likely pass this, but planned on deferring it for more committees, deliberation, etc. I know Jane Harrison wanted that since she made a motion for it. And who knows what happens behind the scenes then. Even the mayor said they would likely do that at the beginning. Several of us quietly chanting VOTE, which caught on, and the clear presence of all these citizens in favor seemed to give them the cover they needed to move forward. No one even seconded Harrison’s motion, and when this did move to a vote and passed, everyone applauded. Proud moment of civic engagement. The other side was petty and anecdotal, and I’m glad common sense won the day.
Side comments, after seeing them in person and listening to them speak, I have an enormous amount of respect for both Janet Cowell and Mitch Silver (who I already had an appreciation for from his years of service to Raleigh).
Well said. Team Red (probably just some of them) got emotional and made too many side remarks and snickering comments while people were speaking. Even during the city staff presentation. You could see Councilor Silver mouthing to them, “Stop it. It doesn’t help.” It’s just rude and shows no class.
