Smoky Hollow Phases 1, 2, and 3

Couldn’t ask for a worse crowd.

They knew what they were doing when they forced Mendell onto that committee over the mayor’s recommendations (was supposed to be Nicole Stewart). That little coup was the first sign of this council’s direction.

You have got to be kidding me. Crowder is the chair?

I would LOVE to be the “fly-on-the-wall” on these behind the meetings/meetings…

Lol, downtown Raleigh will never have the growth we require with Crowder’s little fiefdom. She wants to block any hint of growth.

Well, we need to push the narrative that Raleigh’s municipal growth is rapidly slowing and that we require these variances to keep building the tax base to care for our aging and expansive infrastructure.

Didn’t Kane and team request deferral to the G&NR Committee? Why would they do that given the makeup? Do they think they can win this group over before it comes up to vote before the full council?

Jesus Christ this makes me want to pull my hair out. None of those people have any right to be on any committee with the word “growth” in it. Nicole Stewart 100% should’ve been on there.

My understanding is they wanted more of an opportunity for the public to chime in and the council to think about it.

@dtraleigh, this thread title needs to be “Smoky” now.

Your post literally made me LOL in agreement. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::joy:

I’m not changing it until I see it on a physical sign or building. :triumph:

Kane’s Smoky Hollow “crown”:

Let us know of any scoop on this meeting, please.

From the webcam. There’s an assault by 4 (or is it 5?) mini cranes installing the exterior finish.
I hope they don’t forget do polish up that lovely garage deck…

Why again did Kane not top that parking deck with additional apartments to level out the entire structure vs. having what you see there? The saddest part will be the south side (dead zone) to connect to the most popular section (phase II).

I would have LOVED to have seen him top that parking deck with at least 10 more floors of office space. That would have been awesome!

I would say that he is betting that compeleting his developments and winding up with a cohesive district will yield better returns within his investment horizons than being perfectionistic about each and every component. He would rather knock the phases out block by block, and then move on to phase 3 and 4.

Amen @orulz. What if there were no John Kane? Ponder that!

I noticed on Tuesday afternoon when I drove by, there what appeared to be new steel beams coming out of the ground in the area where the old bridge was just demolished. I don’t see them in your picture here:

Were they just added, and does anyone know the purpose/plan?

It’s the framing work for the reminder of the bridge over Peace St. The current traffic alignment over the bridge is temporary and will straighten out more once complete.
