State Government

Seems like a perfect opportunity for an office to housing conversion. I love parks but we need more housing in this area, there are multiple parks and museums but not many residential units.

Plus all of those buildings seem doable for that type of conversion from what I can tell. The green spaces in between the buildings could become mini gardens :man_shrugging:t4::tulip:

Yeah I’m gonna go the other way and say that demolishing the bland 6-story brick 1940s office buildings somehow doesn’t bother me. They are more or less unornamented and don’t have much in the way of street presence. It’s already a dead zone.

NC State has a dozen or so buildings of similar style and vintage. Modernizing them has been no small task.

Restoring Caswell Square, with the dept of ag building on the corner, with the other offices relocated elsewhere (downtown, hopefully?) is maybe OK with me?

I think we’ve already established on here that it’s for demonic sex dungeons.

A much needed amenity for downtown Raleigh. As I saw some people doing it out in public the other week

New park space with dedicated parking for food trucks would be an excellent addition to the state government complex and could make up for the deficiencies in food options in the new education building.

Anyone know what the state is building here on Salisbury Street?

Sorry. That’s G14 classified.

I think that’s the chiller plant expansion.

Although it wouldn’t be surprising if it’s actually the new Institute for Voter Suppression or some shit

Or perhaps THAT’S the BDSM Dungeon for State reps we keep hearing about

Honestly disappointing if it’s an expansion of that plant… I had always hoped someday they’d move it out of the immediate downtown area and sell the land for a PRETTY PENNY for future development. Prime area. sigh

That red building is one of my favorite older buildings downtown. I always hoped the area around it would grow into a normal cityscape, and this building could be converted to a more active use.

I feel the same way but the reality is that it’s been sucked into the void that is the government district. It’s been moved before so it would be incredible to move it again.

Tbf you can’t really move the chiller plant too far because its purpose is serving all the buildings in the state government complex. But it would be nice if they’d use the real estate more efficiently.

Maybe they wouldn’t need a new chiller plant if our State Legislators weren’t so full of hot air.

Well now at least I know that. In all honesty… I had no idea what that facility was, before nor after you informed us it’s a “Chiller plant” hahaha
