For those who needed a refresher and didn’t want to dive into the 106-page plan, I found the “Big Jump” map at the back. It shows the highest-priority, within-five-years scope; many more streets are shown for sidewalks or bikeways.

Decidedly not a survey about Raleigh, but has some important implications. The Triangle West TPO is trying to figure out what to do with the J-branch rail corridor that goes through Carrboro/Chapel Hill up to the Hillsborough Area. If we ever want to see any rail connections to Carrboro from Raleigh via Durham, as has been hinted at in a few planning documents by a few different stakeholders, we should encourage rails PLUS trails and not just a trail conversion, precluding any future transit use.

The South Wake County Landfill is expected to reach full capacity by 2040 or so. The County is currently trying to determine the best course of action. There is a survey that’s available now for people to provide their input, it took me roughly 5 minutes to complete it: Beyond the South Wake Landfill Study | Wake County Government

I took the survey. I can’t say that I understand enough about the whole landfill issue to be terribly useful in a survey, but I did find the ranking activity interesting. I don’t think that they needed 14 different issues since a lot of them were different ways to basically say the same thing. It felt like the activity was designed to push concerns about cost to the bottom of the list in favor of protecting the environment & how we experience the effects of a landfill. While I definitely agree that those two issues are of utmost importance, I disagree that they are fundamentally at odds with managing costs. I put that in my comments section at the end.

NCDOT has released their P8 Projects (2028-2037 STIP) for public input. There are a decent amount of bike/ped and transit projects. You can vote and comment on any specific project.

Does anyone know if this description above is the extension of West St. under the tracks at Union Station? It’s not quite clear to me. I want to make sure that I am up-voting the correct project.

NC State just released a draft survey for their multimodal plan, which seems to be a more focused, near-term study than the campus Physical Master Plan (which had lots of great, but probably very long-term, ideas for multimodal connectivity).
