Fantastic! Thank you.

I didn’t realize the Alexan Moto is in the middle of a forest.

Always drives me crazy the state of this railroad crossing. Right in the middle of one of the densest residential areas on the city and no sidewalk! It seems like this should be top priority for the city.

If you haven’t yet, go take the survey that @dylan shared on the Surveys thread. It has a map for you to drop pins on what you think should be higher priority pedestrian and bike connections. This spot is currently ranked as medium priority and I agree it should be higher.

100% will do. This should be a top priority it would cost very little to really improve the pedestrian experience here.

If only. There is likely no sidewalk there because the crossing gate would have to be moved or modified which is very expensive.

The overwhelming majority of RR crossings in Raleigh do not have proper sidewalks. Scanning around downtown, one side of West and Jones have sidewalks on at least one side, but Cabarrus and Harrington don’t. Elsewhere in the city, I can see that Raleigh Blvd, New Hope Church Rd, and Rush St do, but nothing else as far as I can tell.

But anyway. For anything related to railroads: just go ahead and plan on it taking longer and being way harder and way more expensive than you’d usually think.

I’m thankful they at least have the bike lane (with flex posts), I see peds use it all the time, even if it’s a little undignified.

Drove by this and pulled over to take a shot.

The BEST I can say about this particular 5-over-1 is that it is inoffensive lmao.

A couple ground floor retail spaces to activate the sidewalk around it would’ve gone a looooooong way… shortsighted cash-grab development strikes again.

With the rental rates they are asking, it appears Raleigh has entered the mid $2’s/SF for the standard “luxury apartments” - however the 2 months + $500 giftcard makes me think they are not hitting their lease up velocity.

For reference, 400H seems to be nearing the $3/SF (currently a little under), but they do have 2 months concessions still. Maeve is hoovering right under $3/SF too.

I wish I could rent places by the square foot. Like 50 square feet for 100 bucks a month, where I could stop and take a little nap when I’m downtown.

They have that in Tokyo

All over Japan. As Wikipedia aptly puts it, “stereotypically used by Japanese salarymen who may be too drunk to return home safely, have missed the last train of the day to make a return trip home due to working late hours, or are too embarrassed to face their spouses.” I have seen this first-hand. Leave the office around 7 pm (it’s deemed inconsiderate or disloyal to leave at “closing time”), go to a bar, and…

Have stayed more nights than I care to count in unconventional overnight arrangments in Japan. Hostels, internet cafes, capsule hotels, karaoke booths. Surprisingly normal and common.

As for capsule hotels, some are men-only and the ones that do accommodate women have them stay in completely separate parts of the building. Surprisingly little awkwardness. The bathroom/shower situation was definitely not western style though - at least not 20+ years ago. That might make some of y’all uncomfortable.

$30 bucks a night to stay in central Tokyo, though - WIN. That still felt like a lot of money to me as a 22 year old foreign student - but it was worth it for the experience and the ability to travel on an extremely limited budget.
