The Bend, Trophy Brewing expansion on Morgan Street

I completely believe you have a credible source. That wasn’t my point. And as a business owner in an economy where staff is very hard to come by, you don’t give them reasons to question their employment until you have a plan. That isn’t melodramatic but to each his own.

If this is true, then what does that mean for the future of Maywood? Is Kane looking to take over the whole southern corridor and go vertical?

Also, where does Kane get all this money to invest? It’s been impressive how he plowed right through COVID and now he’s plowing right through a recession.

Great questions! I think once you demonstrate your ability to execute, finding money isn’t difficult. It’s not all Kane’s money I’m sure.

Well sure, I appreciate that…I guess the question is whether it was appropriate to bring it up to the bartenders not whether I have the right to say whatever I want. After sleeping on it, I’m not sure. I brought it up because the news that Trophy was leaving the neighborhood and Kane assembling yet another mega project really bothered me. Anyways, I apologize if it was the wrong thing to do. I’ll use more discretion in the future.

I’ve honestly had similar situations where I end up having a conversation with bartenders or staff about some type of development and they’re completely clueless or have incorrect information. I don’t do it to troll them, and I don’t think you were either. But it’s relevant to them. Sometimes they know more than I do, and sometimes know nothing. If it’s on a public forum, I don’t feel like I’m sharing some big secret.

Fwiw I don’t think it’s an issue at all to ask about the potential relocation, I just thought it seemed a little presumptuous to tell the bartenders to call Meeker and tell him they are disgusted with him for something that may not even be happening. I deleted my comment bc it was not helpful.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Not NIMBY. Preservationist / anti-assemble as much land as possible and build monstrosity. Also, pro-neighborhood watering hole.

Plan to head into Berkeley Cafe next and call them all idiots as well.

I read an interesting analysis last night about architectural hubris. An effort to keep streetscapes interesting and inviting, the author suggested that architects democratize their mass assemblies and allow multiple firms to work on one project, essentially dividing up a large multi-phase project by designer so that there is diversity of design within the streetscape. I love this approach and think Kane does a pretty good job of spreading the design diversity around. But I almost think they’ve gotten so big that he could divvy up some of the development potential. Create a loose master plan, develop phase one, then sell phase two to another developer. Would be complicated, but would ultimately result in a better city

Dang Phil, thought you were as hard as woodpecker lips, taken out by your fellow wokies, lol. Damn man, let me get that Tesla, I need a new junk car.

Well, that’s going to be the last time I apologize for something like that. Dang. Savage. Thank you for that.

Lol, it’s ok, it’s a good valid question to be asked, but you may have gotten snaked, I find it hard to believe they have not heard that rumor, it’s all over the locals pages, Reddit and here. Funny stuff man.

I recently had a conversation with one of the homeowners on Maywood near Trophy. They have been approached to sell their home along with all the other owners nearby to Kane. Apparently they are going to rezone the properties for up to 20 stories. They also mentioned that the Baker Roofing Buildings along Lake Wheeler were being looked at to redevelop. Lots of activity possibly popping up near Dix Park for sure!

It seems the rumors are all converging.

I really think Maywood, especially as a historic neighborhood, would be best suited for missing middle housing and some smaller apartment buildings. I personally hope it doesn’t go pure Kaneville megablocks at that location. Eventually Raleigh may look like a combination of pre and post Kane developments…

Whenever I read Kane’s name, in my head I hear a booming KANE, à la Citizen Kane.

And Baker Roofing’s sitting on a gold mine.

I didn’t realize how large their holding was. It’s confirmed they are building a facility in East Wake CO.

Did they change their plans from relocating their home operations to the old Kmart building on 401 near Garner?

Yes; that is going to be a Life Sciences campus now.

Oooh, do you have further details on that? That is good to hear.
