The future of the Person St. District?

Someone read my mind. I was actually talking to my wife 2 days ago about how great it would be to see that area come to life with a redevelopment that included ground floor retail. I guess a medical office would be ok, too. Would rather see retail, though.

Oh good! I’ve wondered about those sad decaying houses every time I walk by. Fully agree they’re pretty and it’d be nice to see them restored in some fashion along with more density.

Could also be a cool frontage to the roundabout here as well.

Heck, roll in 808 and 812 to this and bump up against the old O2 for a mini-mega mixed use dev!
Bring out those OakNimby pitchforks!

It’s an interesting lot. I’m as pro housing as they come but I’d like to see something done with a creative commercial space very similar to what they’ve done with the Person St Bar / Standard building with very limited parking. Lots of density already being added within walking distance of this and could really make the N. Person Neighborhood start feeling like it’s own true district.

I’m fine with any of these options as long as they keep that color scheme.

Looks like the worn out old house on the south end of the Person strip (next to the BP) is getting freshened up.

That does look cool. And I hope they use this exact color scheme, especially for the windows. Reminds me of one of those Wild West shooting gallery games from the old arcades…

A little birdie told me that the city does not plan to convert ANY part of the corridor to two-way traffic in this latest iteration. It’s not being scrapped completely, but not considered for right now either. They plan on doing some traffic calming at the south end of the Blount/Person corridor, and implement the roundabout on Automotive. Maybe some “enhancements” to bike lanes.

Pretty bummed about them not converting the streets to two-way traffic. I really don’t like how the section of Person between the Governor’s mansion and Peace gets treated like a highway for a few blocks.

It seemed pretty dead in the water once they went from converting the entire street to two-way traffic to only that North section due to the BRT. I’d imagine that BRT considerations for this corridor are a huge part of the reasoning here. That said, I’m glad they’re looking into calming measures along the whole corridor. Hopefully, they’re thoughtful calming measures and not just checkbox infrastructure.

Ugh, that’s a shame, for all the reasons you mentioned.

I live right between Person and Blount and am really looking forward to the eventual traffic calming and 2-way conversion. I don’t mind waiting a few more years. It doesn’t make sense to spend the money, time and energy re-configuring the roads if they’ll just have re-do it all for the BRT a few years later. Take all those resources and put them towards implementing the BRT faster and/or better. My only concern with the delays is that if they put it off for too long there will be more pushback on reducing the car traffic throughput and it will never happen.

Why does BRT ostensibly make a conversion to two-way undesirable/impractical?

I would imagine that on a road with one lane of traffic in each direction, a frequent BRT line would fully occupy one direction of travel frequently.

Oh right. I forgot the BRT actually travels along Person or Blount at some point. Thanks!
