They had a soft opening when I went past yesterday evening, and announced online they are planning to open later next week! Excited to have that space activated again.

I thought both the roundabout at Automotive/Brookside and 2 way conversion were part of this latest round? Very disappointing if not

2-way conversion isn’t happening I don’t think. The roundabout is still planned but pretty sure it’s not part of this phase of the project due to NCDOT doing some work in this area, but I think it’s still happening. So this is mostly signal and bike/ped improvements (which is still nice).**

Those are just the short-term projects. In the long-term, the city is looking at converting the intersection of Delway Street/Person Street/Wake Forest Road into a roundabout and transforming Blount Street and Person Street from one-way to two-way streets.
Construction for the immediate project start[s] in October. That portion of the construction project is budgeted at $946,000. The budget for the entire corridor is $9.4 million.
Conversion to two-way traffic is planned for the portion north of Edenton Street.
The portion south of Edenton to Hammond is owned and maintained by NCDOT and will remain as one-way pairs.

From Edenton to Hammond is NCDOT.

I understand about south of Edenton. But the project website update was only about the bike lane stuff, not the rest of what we’re talking about: the 2 way conversion in the northern section and the roundabout. Unless I’m missing something?

But no schedule published for either of those two portions. Current construction project converts the MLK to Hammond portions to a modified complete street cross-section to be more bike and pedestrian friendly.

From earlier in the year. The city dropped the Person/Blount improvements north of MLK. The roundabout near Wake Forest/Automotive is now tied to the Capital Blvd. bridge replacement project that was posted about below.
Current let date for the bridge replacement is 2030, so we likely won’t see a roundabout here for 5+ years.

I haven’t been able to find almost any information about the capital bridge project btw. You would think that a project that will completely reroute the major Northern artery into the city would get some press. One of many reasons I don’t trust NCDOT. They have a trillion dollar budget and they’re just gonna do what they do, no transparency or accountability.

This is actually a huge redesign proposal of Capital Blvd. They are putting both the northbound/southbound lanes on what is now southbound only and converting the current northbound lanes to a more pedestrian friendly street. I’d be all for this since I drive here daily.
