The future of the Person St. District?

Of all levels of politics, the city and county are where I’d expect the least cynical and most civic minded politicians. I certainly understand general cynicism about politics, but when wide-spread you can discourage civic minded folks from running.

That is the nature of this entire city government. Very very risk averse.

Scott Crawfords new restaurant Jolie opens tomorrow, I might give it a try in the middle of the week when it’s not as crowded. I like how he replaced some of the broken sidewalk in front of the restaurant, I can imagine he wasn’t in the mood to wait for the city to fix it.

They are only open for dinner and didn’t have any reservations at normal times for like over a month. I made one for next month at like 5:30… They did say they have open seating for the bar and rooftop, so maybe you’ll get lucky. Too bad they’re not open all day. That’s my favorite way to go to normally busy places, show up at like 3pm

Construction is finally set to start Tuesday September 3rd on Phase 1 of the Blount, Person & Wake Forest Rd. project

“The contractor is scheduled to begin work along the Wake Forest Road section of the project starting Sept. 3. The milling and paving work is scheduled to take place between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., and the signal and concrete work is expected to take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Weather permitting, the contractor is scheduled to take one week for milling and one week for paving. The milled surface will not be left open to traffic any longer than two weeks.
There are parking restrictions in place during construction. Please adhere to all temporary no-parking signs along the corridor.”

FYI to anyone who travels along the Blount / Person corridor and heads up Wake Forest.

WAKE FOREST WILL BE CLOSED for one block between where Blount and Person combine to form Wake Forest and Capital Boulevard starting on the 9th (tomorrow) thru the end of the month.

You know full well that people are just going to drive thru the neighborhoods around the work zone, though.

I think a couple people will find that there is essentially no traffic on Raleigh Blvd and New Bern coming into town and just start taking that route more often. I would love for Raleigh Transportation and the DOT to do a couple month experiment shutting down the Atlantic Bridge and making it a Bicycle and Pedestrian crossing to 5 points for a few months.

I take the #10 bus downtown from east of Raleigh Blvd, and I have never actually seen my bus encounter traffic on the way to work.

Oh what up fellow #10 rider!

I for one am very excited about the slow down on Wake Forest. Somewhat out of the loop on the final plans here — can anyone confirm if we are still expecting:

  • A roundabout at Wake Forest/Brookside/Automotive way
  • Realignment of Capital Blvd Northbound past Atlantic bridge to be with southbound
  • Automotive Way/Capital Blvd N becoming “Person Street Extension”
  • Two way conversions on Person and Blount
  • Greenway connection on Capital Blvd from Crabtree Trail to Devereaux
  • Circus burger to remain open for another 20+ years against all odds

I also vote for the pedestrian bridge test

I hope they have more bar seats to go with their beer taps. They have a license to sell the stuff and never really try to promote it.

Do they actually want people to hang out there?

It’s beer for the biking community and less about being a stand alone bar. People that frequent there or that rent the repair racks will get one here and there. There is a similar place in Moab buts its a coffee shop wedged into what is primarily a bike shop, and its where the bike oriented community (of which there is a ton in Moab) is made to feel at home.

They have started putting down white traffic markers on Blount and Person including a bike lane.
