I appreciate that this is a long-boi vs one of the many, many, many, many, MANY fat square-bois. If anything like the render, this will end up one of the more unique looking 5-over-1s in the city.
Any timeline updates on the Lake Wheeler improvements? Iâm hopeful that theyâve got the design work mostly done and itâs not stuck in another 10 year study death loop
Narrator: It was stuck in another 10 year study death loop.
Nope no no not today

Fall 2024 for construction start.
That roundabout infinity looks terrible for pedestrians. Hope the final design is better.
Honestly in theory, the cars wonât have a choice but to go slow around this loop. This will somewhat make it more likely that they will stop for pedestrians and decrease the amount of accidents.
Slow or not, I rarely ever see cars stopping for pedestrians trying to walk through roundabout crosswalks. They always stop at red lights thoughâŚ
Yeah trust me I know, Iâve dealt with it a few times in Boston. As long as there is a pedestrian crossing signal, I think it should be safe-ish for pedestrians and cyclists.
Someone will stop and thankfully only one car will need to in order to block traffic.
On a happy anecdotal note, I do feel like over the past couple years cars have gotten better at looking for pedestrians on the Hillsborough roundabouts. I run along it very frequently, and it just seems to be less hair-raising.
If it makes any difference, I yelled at a guy this morning on my way out of DTR. He was running in the middle of the street between the two cross walks.
âDude, use the cross walk next time!â
Iâm just pumped there will finally be a sidewalk
Iâm more excited about the bike track, we donât have much bike infrastructure so itâs hard not to be excited.
I donât have a bike. So that helps me not be that excited⌠Lol
Just drove back into Raleigh from the east on I40. The crane is visible from the beltline interchange. Itâs going to be neat coming around that curve on 40 and seeing the new edge of downtown from that far out. I tried to snap a picture but itâs not worth sharing
Why didnât you took the picture lamo
I can see it so impressive
The crane dominates the downtown approach from Hwy 70 from basically the city limits near Garner all the way to when the road curves into downtown. This is a significant structure for sure.
Crane base is being installed today at the weld
