It’s automurbanity.
That’s a terrible name. First of all, if they’re gonna go with “Village District”, at least put “The” in front of it. Secondly, why didn’t they just go with “The Village”?
Exactly what I was thinking!! I like The Village much better. Is VD short for Village District?
The Village is already used as a shortcut name, and it appears in The Village Deli, etc.
I wonder how much they paid in consultant fees to come up with a name that nobody is going to use.
Aside from the actual shopping center, it’s not like the name Cameron isn’t on other things around it like Cameron Park, Cameron Village (neighborhood), Cameron Village Condos, etc.
Adoption of this name is change is going to be challenging. It’s just so engrained into the lexicon of the city.
Just more woke virtue signaling that accomplishes nothing.
Never heard it called the Village except in a specific name like Village Deli. Not a fan. Needs a better name.
Then make a suggestion. I’ve already made mine.
Maybe they should just say it’s now named after Eddie Cameron.
Or Cameron from Ferris Buehler…
We gonna change the name of the “White House”
too?
I liked the Oberlin Village suggestion, but I’m mostly open to anything distinctive. The Village District sounds a) generic and b) belonging to a much larger urban city (like NYC’s Garment District).
That all said, I hope no one starts deep diving Sir Walter’s life. I have no desire to live in the Capitol District if this gets renamed.
Raleigh! There’s a place you can go.
I said, Raleigh! If you’ve got plenty of dough.
You can shop there, and I’m sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time…
Is @dtraleigh going to have to change the name of this thread now?
Soon our names will be deemed inappropriate and we will all just be known as IT or The Village People.
the latter is trademarked. try again!
Never knew where the name ‘Cameron’ came from until looking it up just now. But the Village District makes me think of the village people.
They are all about dead and no one cares lol
Guess will have to change my name, there are a couple of plantation owners in eastern NC pre-1865 in family tree.
Have to say CV is a great looking place at Christmas time and who does not like Christmas caroling while shopping.
Maybe this is an opportunity for SoDoSoPa?
It does sort of fit.
On a more serious note, why not leverage some of Icons of NC and go with Dogwood Village or Cardinal Village?
@scotchman That joke is clearly in poor taste. I suggest you edit it.
I’m taking the bait on this one. I see nothing but a good business decision. IMO, you open yourself up to a slightly larger customer pool with the name change. Is it worth keeping a name that’s offensive to a portion of your local market that could spend dollars in your tenants’ shops? What do you lose here?
I know a few people are going to stubbornly boycott the shops there because of this move but I’m sorry, you’re in the extreme minority and life will move on without you.
Also, I do think the name is weak but I typically just use the names of the shops I go to rather than CV as a whole anyway.
