Village District developments

Saw that. Cameron Village already has too much of an “elite status” vibe, this will certainly seal it. Very unfortunate.

To add, just saw this new development of (6) row houses being marketed. Sure to be very expensive and upscale. They’re beautiful and will contribute to the built environment though. Unclear of exact location. Do others know the parcel for this? Press release: Edinburgh Development Announces Pre-Sale of Exclusive Cameron Crest Row Homes in Raleigh NC | Cameron Crest

They say they are under-construction already, but no location given. How strange.

The address on their Facebook page is 416 St Mary’s.

why is it ‘unfortunate’? Because it is expensive?

That makes sense. That is the parcel below for reference. Next to the apartments off Tucker.

Because there’s plenty of empty lots to build new, expensive housing - such as the one @RaleighBikeLady just shared above^^. Older, more affordable housing is being lost. It’s unfortunate.

That is awesome: 20 units, 16 parking spaces, 3 stories, 1/3 acre. This is small-scale but definitely has a “city” feel, which is something Raleigh could use a lot more of.

Currently an empty grass lot. BRING IT ON!!

[off-topic] Six nearly identical lot sizes in my neighborhood in Five Points to this one in Cameron Village. Would love to see a row of similar developments. Although, zoned IX-3, so each building would also need a ground floor retail/light industrial/makers space.

Great project for the Cameron Village area.

Zillow is still showing this as the project for 615 Daniels.

If the condo building gets built instead, there will be commercial style buildings surrounding the mid-century ranch home that sits next door. It looks like a really cool house, but I’d speculate that its days are numbered.

That listing says “expected late 2012…,”so probably out of date

That is a somewhat famous house, locally anyway, because Everett freakin’ Case lived in it most of his life.

Save the house! Thanks for the link.

Took this the other day. Looks like the CV post office is mostly gone

Yeah. Just saw that. Had the mistaken impression that it was gonna be a reno. Not a demo.

Demolition is underway on the former home of the Post Office in Cameron Village. In 2019, WakeMed announced plans to renovate and redevelop the two-story building into a medical office building. We have learned via Instagram that the layout of the building didn’t work for WakeMed, resulting in the demolition.

York Properties commented on the plans to renovate and remodel, “That was the original intent. Unfortunately the building layout didn’t work for the new tenant’s needs. So, while we’re sad to see a piece of our company’s history demolished, a new piece is being built. And, as #SmedesYork always says, “You can’t rest on your laurels.” Even better, WakeMed will end up with a wonderful parking situation (a much-coveted feature here in Cameron Village) and a brand new facility with which to serve our community!”

Hopefully with the rebuild, they’ll bring closer to the sidewalk, and save any parking feature for the back of the property!
