West End - Platform, Oldham & Worth - Development at W Cabarrus/S Saunders

Curious what they’ll do to incorporate the necessary grade change from the West Street underpass, if anything. Renderings and ASR all show a substantial portion along West Street that is currently underground

Nvm, the ASR for the new mixed use building shows that they’re grading and putting up a temporary retaining wall

We got the official project start notification for a Oldham & Worth.

The project started last week and the total project duration is about two years. We will primarily be doing site preparation work for the remainder of this year and will begin vertical construction right after that. Crazy… I wonder how much space Kane has for lease in Raleigh…

I think that most of us wish it had more height, but Boylan Heights’ voices shot that down.

Not just more height, but more variation, but Boylan Heights decided they’d rather have a hulking block than a skinnier tower.

Trust me, they would have fought that too if the UDO didn’t already allow the developer to build what’s currently there.
What kills me is that Boylan Heights seems to want to protect their view of downtown while trying to prevent it from adding anything to look at or experience.

Seems to be a common theme with that Neighborhood. See RHA. They want the convenience of being right next to downtown, but without any headaches of being right next to downtown.

As someone who has lived in this neighborhood for the past year, it seems to be a very vocal minority of homeowners who feel this way. There seems to be a large renter community here, with many of the older homes split into apartments and multiplexes. We have been receiving mail from the neighborhood organization and they seem to be very active now after getting reinstated (?) this past year. Unfortunately, I just don’t think many of the young renters know about how to get involved or care to get involved in what happens near the neighborhood.

That and our elected “representatives” aren’t going to care as much what a renter has to say. Renters don’t donate to campaigns.

Even local city council reps get $50k+ in funding. What’s crazy is how much some of them get with no real competition. Jane Harrison doesn’t have anyone running against her yet still has $45k in donations…

If you know she’s going to win, then donating to her is an even better investment for most businesses than a competitive race


That dirt pile is now a rock pile. We are moving through the stages of prehistory. Once they invent metallurgy, we can get some crossbeams.

It’s a true Rock Fest. Renting must not be going too badly at Wild West #! for them to now be ready to get going on Wild West #2. Good news for the Wild West overall.

Can’t wait for the environmental remediation stage! :crazy_face: We had months of fumes and headaches in the neighborhood with phase 1.

Glad this is moving forward, though. I wish the other projects at that end would start already so we inch our way to someday living in a neighborhood without major construction!

Yet to be confirmed Birdie :bird: news is that 312 W Cabarrus Street (the old Litmus Art Gallery) may be the new home of LEGENDS.
