Wild Ideas for Raleigh

I’d rather it be developed! And then make the triangle lot just to the East a small city-park/green space. Currently a parking lot, once slated to become a dog park…

Why not both?? And agreed on the triangular parcel becoming a park, I’m 100% on board with that as well. :deciduous_tree:

This is all right next to the ARTery Park proposal floating around here. Cap those tracks!!!

Absolutely the triangle plot of land needs to become a park. It’s wonderful that Raleigh keeps making progress on Dix Park, and that Smoky Hollow Park is inevitable. It’s also wonderful that we have 2 of the original 4 park squares squares left in the city. However, and as the downtown continues to densify and urbanize, we need more opportunities for small neighborhood parks, and they all shouldn’t just be a place for :poodle: :dog: to :poop: .

Frankly, having developers provide parks as part of an exchange with the city to get more height in rezoning should be considered. Miami Beach got an entirely new park this way:

Sure the “public” plazas and gathering spots are nice within the private developments of Smoky Hollow, One Glenwood, and the upcoming Creamery project, but they aren’t as valuable as having small public city parks. You want 40 story rezoning? Okay, fine, but cleave off some land and build and donate a neighborhood park to the city!

Small neighborhood parks are natural gathering places, and they create a desirable place to open an adjacent small business like a daytime cafe, a wine bar, or small romantic restaurant.

Could Raleigh get Waymo before 2030?

Here’s one from Miami Beach yesterday.

Well, when we are purposely hostile to the sort of worker who oftentimes drives taxis, rideshare, etc., somebody has to do the job. In addition to these sort of drivers, delivery robots are all over South Beach.

There is no “somebody” doing this job though it’s literally an auto-piloted vehicle taking a job away from an actual human, unless I’m wildly mistaken by this company’s practices lmao

At least in Miami, a lot of those jobs are held by immigrants on TPS, or without green cards. You can figure out the rest for yourself.

the only driverless car i want in raleigh is a gondola car #gondolagang

They’ll try to turn left from Wade Ave. Don’t know if you could program them to avoid that.

One stopped on light rail tracks (I think in San Jose), and the passenger had to escape. One in Miami refused to go on the Venetian Causeway after the bascule bridge re-opened for traffic after having been opened for a boat passing through. It just refused to move forward. There are clearly “issues” with them.

Yeah and I’m very happy for those to get worked out somewhere besides the Triangle.

Maybe you could be the test driver (so they are programmed correctly), since you drive so much!

News flash: there are “issues” with human drivers.

Where did I say that there weren’t issues with human drivers?

Also, the two examples I gave you were insane mistakes that drivers don’t make. The cars clearly got confused about what to do and their response was to do nothing.

Small city zoo or city aquarium on part of the Dix park footprint. With all the visitors to the museums and Gov facilities, there would be no shortage of visitors to keep either of those full

Wild idea Raleigh needs to upgrade its fire equipment to allow 60-story buildings.

I wasn’t aware that that’s a limitation. During the discussiom at council over the recent North Hills rezoning, the fire chief stated they can support high rise buildings, as in anything over 5 stories.
