Wild Ideas for Raleigh

Unfortunately I doubt a city like KC is going to get rid of national museums.

However, I think taking the NC Sports hall of fame out of the history museum and giving it its own space would be really cool. Could have a large section on the Big 4, minor league baseball, hell you could have a whole MJ section.

I want a life sized statue of former Carolina Panthers MVP Cam Newton holding off the 4 dudes trying to jump him, renaissance style.

Especially since it’s there because James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, coached an hour down the road at KU.

That will look great in your living room. How about one, or several 'cane players instead?

Here lies the problem what about teens. That other NC city has an amusement park why can’t we.

They hosted a lot of NCAA basketball finals too. Back when the NIT was the invite all the teams wanted

They’re supposed to vote on it soon, that or there an alternative of more boring parks.

You guys just don’t have great ideas I might run for office or the parks board I want changes I’m tired of this quaint mentality some people have on this forum and in the city in general.

You don’t think an Olympic sized swimming pool is a good idea?

Haha there you go, in an renovated Nash Square we can have a fountain in the center like this:

The water from the fountain can splash into a ‘fun zone’ or out another water feature. Thanks ChatGPT

We need our own moat on Fayetteville St.

I want a big cascade where capital comes into town proper, behind the longleaf.
I also want a big oblisk or two. Preferably in a traffic circle. Or in front of Memorial.
I’d like to see the market hall on Moore activated.
The sky chairs from downtown to Dix.
Finally, a giant gucci pig statue someplace

No beer, yet, but forgot my #1 wish. That we get something epic on the N&O site.

The “Edison” lot is one of the most prime lots remaining… but this N&O lot is THEE prime lot downtown and the spot where I personally believe the most skyline defining and mixed use development should go. Those lots out front of Mem. Aud. are prime, sure, but they’re so far removed from the city as a whole - the N&O lot is SMACK DAB in the middle of all the action.

Between Edison, N&O, and Nash Apts we would get one dang good east/west axis along Martin. Square to square, a great street ending at RUS, and connection to the Wild West Side. Fingers crossed that we can get the kind of density on Martin that West continues to add. Widen the sidewalks all the way from RUS to Moore.
I think Martin should be a serious focus for all the above.

if i recall other students at state called the design students…the design-oids. but if it doesn’t exist already maybe a showcase of student work would be of campus interest.

Sure, a Rockclimbing facility at the park could be needed. Gondolas is nice, I like to see a nice color changing fountain. I’m Not to into fountains but that’s a nice idea. I actually prefer the color-changing LED fountain to be in the front of the Raleigh skyline I prefer it by the area of where South Saunders splits up, and becomes McDowell and Dawson respectively. Anyway, I’d also like to see a Ferris Wheel, or a giant I playground (take a cue from Cary), I think a small-scale water park could work with a couple of slides, I actually like @Phil idea of an Olympic-sized pool but I would like a couple of slides. There could be an indoor and an outdoor facility, perhaps also a mini golf course also, or even a race car track. It could be a better adventure landing or Frankie.
