Wild Ideas for Raleigh

So tired of these community meetings they don’t feel productive at all. I’ve been to a few there great ideas but they don’t seem to care or consider those ideas because a lot of them have a quaint town mindset. If I was in charge I have only 1 meetup them we send the ideas to a out of state consultant (not a local cause they’ll have the same lame ideas) who’s good with downtown revival that firm help us out. DRA is I just feel they take forever in everything there no outsiders (meaning non-NC or Raleigh natives) just a bunch of locals who have protectionist and frankly borderline NIMBY idea, I feel they disregard any cool ideas imo. How many meetings do you need?

I feel you’re describing exactly what is taking place. Interface Studios is based out of Philadelphia.

Well I didn’t know that, and yes I am describing what’s happening and I know Raleigh not gonna do something boujee because y’all perfer parks, don’t we have enough of those?

What is more boujee than parks? Rich folks have private estates, poor folks gets streets, and the middle class wants public parks!

A park with a fountain.

The firefighter memorial at Nash Park is ugly AF. We can easily update the memorial with a very nice looking water fountain and a more pleasant perimeter facilities for people to hang out around it.

Fountains are like sidewalks…too expensive.

Whitewater center, a pullen park for teens and adults, a giant playground like in Cary. Nothing against parks but don’t we have enough already.

You rail against more parks, but what you describe can be categorized as a park. I’m confused.

Well make the parks more entertaining not everyone is walking their dog, or doing yoga and exercising and riding their bikes. People need to be excited about going there and I think that’s why we need more amenities. I hope they approve the whitewater facility at Nurse River, or add some amusement attractions or expand Pollenz Park so it isn’t characterized specifically for kids. It need to be more options.

A city zoo, or a Raleigh Aquarium. The NC Aquariums are great but they are a hike. Also, see if we could buy the College Basketball Hall of Fame from Kansas City. THIS is the center of the college basketball universe.

Wild Idea : A non-Pollenz park in March… I kill me…

Maybe we should just embrace the pollen and have an art installation at Dix Park with magnified pollen grains from our most notorious allergens. :man_shrugging:

You can put up a big wall and make parts of it sticky. After the pollen blows for a few days, the sticky parts will attract more of the particles and reveal the art.

We could bring back the Pullen Park Zoo!

Whatever happened to the plans for a whitewater park just downstream from the damn dam on the Neuse?

There were some sketches / renderings 3-4 years ago. But haven’t heard a peep since.

Yeah, wouldn’t it be great if Pullen Park expanded and added a theatre, or a arts center with classes for adults, or maybe some tennis courts and softball fields? If we are really thinking big, they should build an Olympic sized swimming pool and open it up the the public. At the very least though - they should have some paddle boats and picnic shelters. I love paddle boats.

They could also add a train and carousel at Pullen Park.

Yeah but that stuff is just for kids.

NC State should build an art museum and seemlessly connect it to Pullen, Maybe they can call it the Gregg Museum of Art. That would be sweet.
