I feel like this will play better in person than it does in the renderings. The 3D model looks much better than the renderings in my opinion. It’s certainly a unique design and sometimes in projects like this, angles and perspective make a big difference.

Looks good to me, and usually I have lots of qualms. It reminds me of a bigger version of the Lightner Center.

Just saw an update on the wire service. It appears the plan is for the building to have 31 floors plus a penthouse (so 32 floors? Not sure why they don’t just call it 32) and a height of 414 feet, which would make it the third tallest in the city. Elevation at top of 757 minus ground floor at 343.

Penthouse is just a mechanical floor, not occupied space.
I thought the definition of a penthouse was
A penthouse is an apartment or unit on the highest floor of an apartment building, condominium, or hotel. Penthouses are typically differentiated from other apartments by luxury features.
How do we know when its a mech versus one of these?

Yup, it’s also used that way more informally! But in the case of building design/permitting, a penthouse typically refers to an enclosed space above the roof that houses mechanical equipment. Building code treats it differently than an occupied floor.
That’s the reason 121 Fayetteville says 31 floors + penthouse. The penthouse is included in the overall height, but not the floor count.

With this being the updated admin site review application and no zoning required - when might construction start? Any insights
So that answers another question that I had about how the city measures building height. It doesn’t end at the roof; it ends at the top of the penthouse. Thanks!

What will happen to the Tasty 8 and the site of Andrew Johnson historical marker? It is between the old building south of Alexander Square parking deck.
Well tasty 8 closed awhile ago and I’d assume a marker could be moved. But that’s all I know

Tasty 8 long gone but that pizza place with the 28 inch slices will have to close I believe. They haven’t been there too long too.
We could incorporate this into the lobby just like what was done here in Melbourne according to @dtraleigh. It could take up a couple floors of the lobby and we could build around it. Just a thought.

Last I knew they were planning on building on spec but it’s been awful quiet lately so who knows.

They don’t have site plan approval yet. You can’t build anything until you get that.

This is not a project that will quickly go up, I’m guessing. They’re still redesigning after input from the Appearance Commission.
Good chance not this year at least.

Really you guys dislike it, I meant the needs to speed up there approval process in the commission so building are not just built with great design but with speed and pace.
