I think it will be partially hidden behind the Wells Fargo Building from this angle. I have roughly made a straight line from this view point to the southwest corner of 121 F and as you can see the Wells Fargo Building will obscure it a little or maybe just the tiniest of gaps.
It looks great! I would just rotate it 90 degrees in either direction IMO
I can try to weigh in on this. Obviously, all my buildings are slightly off, but judging by how close everything is, I do think it should be visible cleanly from the S. Saunders angles.

I think that you are absolutely correct. I fully expect it to be impactful from the money shot. It’s just too bad it’s not 600 feet tall.
I agree, this would be a great spot for something higher.
Any updates on 121 Fayetteville ???
I was literally doing research on this just before I read this. I can’t find any updates!
121 Fayetteville is mentioned in this article but nothing new.
I was Just reading this article about the start of 121 Fayetteville bizjournal.com/triangle/news/2019/09/23/developer-moves-forward-with-cutting-edge-high.html a possible 2020 construction start.
I remember that article but not sure what “cutting-edge” means in context aside from making assumptions. I wish the author had expanded on that claim.
And back to the topic of the first full floor of office space not starting until the 16th floor??
Lasers. It’s always lasers.

This building will also have a recessed lobby like FNB tower.
Weird building massing below.
I would love so much for this building ( 121 ) get built, it will fill in well with the WF, PNC, and BBT.
My takeaway from the Appearance Commission video is that the developer and architect are both very interested and invested in making the building a reality. There seems to have been a lot of thought and work put into this project. They understood the impact that the 11-12 (!!) levels of parking will have and are trying to mitigate it. And obviously the Appearance Commission recommended trying a bit more. My gut feeling says this project breaks ground in 2020.
I agree with the Planning Commission it’s our main street but there’s only so much that can be done with this property.
Maybe in the future the north parking deck can have a 3 to 5 levels of office on top to hide the parking deck.
Glad they are moving forward, but this tower is a bit of a hodge podge to me. It’s unsettling IMO that the amenity deck floor has a fortified look on the right side, but left side is cantilevered beginning at the amenity level floor. I wish the cantilevered plane either stopped at the top of the amenity balcony or at the bottom of what appears to be the “slab” holding the balcony.
woah you’re right, the angle in that screengrab is really unflattering lol… you’re seeing all the facade treatments and offsets at once, and it just looks really unresolved. Strangely enough, it’s never bothered me in the renderings, in which that misalignment looks intentional – as if the glass below the amenity floor has just “slid” down a floor to reveal a void in the mass.
tbh I’ve always thought the Dillon was very hodge podge, and Talley Student Center too. Duda Paine is a great firm but some of their work is very busy. I still think this one will be the best tower in Raleigh.
Yes, it looks fine from that angle - but definitely busy across all the corners. No doubt it will be a stark contrast to the other dominant 3 towers in a pleasantly modern way
Hmmm. I’m reminded of the whole Deconstruction period which was a thing in the 1990’s. Is this pulling from that playbook?
