I am thinking about doing a Mansion Madness as this years version of Apartment Madness, but lots (almost all) of the big homes I see in Imaps don’t have good pictures online. I wanted to lay down the challenge across this forum of getting pics of these over 4,000 sqft homes to use judging them. Maybe people have time for that , and maybe we can get enough picts to do this.
So, if you have the time and inclination here are the homes I need pictures of.
1810 BANBURY RD - Imaps says the home is new, but all listings show an older home
119 PASQUOTANK DR - another one where zillow makes it look like a smaller older house is still there
329 TRANSYLVANIA AVE - You can see a mostly complete home in street view
3703 BELLEVUE RD - Has clear design pics, but would be good to see how it turned out
9.1304 MARLOWE RD - Imaps says new home, but not sure…
10.1323 WESTFIELD AVE 1323 Westfield Ave, Raleigh, NC 27607 | Zillow - not the worlds best pic
1507 CANTERBURY RD - did someone tear down a nice 3,200 sqft house to build a 5,200 one? Can’t find pics of a new one.
925 RUNNYMEDE RD - No new pics
3425 BRADLEY PL - empty lot pics online
1609 NOTTINGHAM RD - design on this one and the ones around it look cool on one side
1701 BANBURY RD - Zillow designs only
611 MILLS ST - not done in street view
619 KIRBY ST - just see old house and lot
1605 NOTTINGHAM RD - part of a development a house above is in
3414 LEWIS FARM RD - zillow still construction photos
I can get Churchill, oak grove, Westfield, Canterbury, Runnymede, Bradley, Nottingham and Banbury on a walk this week. I’ve seen most of them already I just don’t have pictures.
I sold a house in North Raleigh in 2019, realtor told me to price right at market price. Houses that are crap had been built a few streets over had been priced at 100 k more than what realtor recommend. I went a 120k over realtor recommendation and still had a bidding war, no inspection, the buyers did not care, just wanted the house ASAP for the schools. Crazy stuff, not worth it in my option. It’s all doomed to crash sooner or later.
Something interesting I am seeing looking into this is that the largest homes seem to be custom non spec houses. Because they were not spec houses, there is not as much of a digital footprint. I actually found a lot more for what I might call the NIT for Mansion Madness. So, I am going to start a NIT bracket for these while pictures of the bigger homes are gathered. These will be 2,900 sqft to 3,999 sqft homes.
I’m going mostly on curb appeal. While I like hidden garages, I will vote for a house with a garage over a house without one because I like having a garage, though I don’t even have one at my house.
Curb appeal and then location are my top two.
Hard to believe more than half of these are blocks from where I grew up.
My folks bought on Everett for $27K in '72, mom sold in '87 for $80k, and redfin has it currently at $730K.
Not in Raleigh, but my family has a similar story with my childhood home in Los Gatos, CA. My parents had it built new in 1965 for $21,000, sold it for $38,500 in 1974 when we moved to Raleigh, and Zillow has it now for a cool $2.5M.
Insanity!!!
