Over the past week and a half we have overwhelmed our VPNs around the globe. We get daily emails about only logging in long enough to do/download/upload what you need for the day. I have made a habit of getting on early (630AM). Once offices across the US come online, it grinds to a halt. We have been encouraged to log in through other VPN networks in other time zones (IE Euorpe and Asia) to avoid peak times in the US. But there is a noticeable lag and half the time you can’t connect to the local servers. I had to get one of the four people in the office to email me files from the server since I couldn’t get on. I am actually looking forward to going back to Morrishell, so I can get some work done.

I have not noticed any lag problems nor heard anyone else complain and a lot of our work is routed through servers in Texas.

My remote working experience is excellent, but I don’t have kids to bother me, and my company actually sells the shit that allows you to be remote, so the tech works.

I went for a drive around town and every construction site was still active!

We are “essential” industry.

Yes. But… Wake County hasn’t yet announced their stay at home plans yet. Announcement at 3:30 today.

Lots of exceptions…let’s try not to be like NextDoor and post ”facts“ on this forum before they are facts. It’s fine to speculate (it’s what this forum is all about).

Yes. Which is why I posted earlier the list of exceptions on another thread so that you could get the facts.

I didn’t mean to reply to you @TedF, really the thread. My apologies.

I’m in a group chat with some friends and 50% of us are considered “essential”

Well I know for sure that the ABC stores are essential.
Although I did prep up, but we seem to never have enough Tanqueray 10.

It’s funny how construction has been handled. Building office towers and luxury condos is essential y’all. I think these governments need to be a bit more selective within industries beyond just a blanket statement of entire industries being essential. The hospital in Holly Springs should be fast tracked and these other non-essential construction activities should be shut down.

Hotels is another industry that leaves me with question marks. If everyone has to stay in their house, who is staying in a hotel? I suppose if your house burns down, but to keep an entire industry running because a small number of emergencies would require it? There has to be a better way.

guess you also believe in little green men if you expect government to reach logical decisions.

I think a lot of what goes into deeming construction essential is that it employs a lot of people who are living pay check to pay check. They would not be paid if they can’t work and would certainly struggle to get by. Construction sites also do not have customers so the risk of mass transmission is much lower than a restaurant or other business.

That Ten sounds great. I may have to seek it out next time and reduce the stock by one.

Saw a brewery had a tent in front of the Meatball Shoppe on Davie Street selling beer. Wish we can keep these relaxed alcohol rules in place indefinitely.

Very, extremely sad that there are quite a few people (family/kids) whose home “IS” a hotel and nothing at all to do with “want”. Some have lost there job in the past and were either evicted or other issues…long list actually. Truly sad…imo! :sob:
