Amazing. Hopefully with the West St extension, this area won’t feel so cut off from everything. Having more connection might cool some of the anxiety this area seems to have over every little project.
This area has so much potential.
Also- what software did you use? I’ve been trying to find something that lets me play around with site plans like this.
I think the West St extension across Wade is no longer planned? Just the greenway connection under the bridge. I do think there will be some sort of frontage street along Capital but all that will be on the other side of the tracks so no impact on the Five Points neighborhood. (Unless we get the pedestrian bridge that also has ramp connections down to the frontage streets)
You are right it will be on the other side. I think it’s still Called West St extension. I still think it will help greatly since instead of coming right out to Capital you come out to a manageable multi-modal street. I think we could get another connection or two in.
I also mapped out a Halifax - Wake Forest connection that’d fit in perfectly as well.
I actually have Bluebeam Revu, didn’t know it could do stuff like this!
Yeees, the ‘fair haired dumbbell’ is pretty RAD…!
While we’re at it and looking to Portland for inspiration, let’s get the city to offer up a couple of its rando surface lots for food carts…maybe for a 5 year ‘pilot’ program ?!?
OK! I love the added density from even a 4-story building here!!! Would be a huge bonus to have something that funky looking sitting at the top of that hill
I know I post of lot of these ideas that aren’t really based on any chance of realistically happening at all - but honestly its kinda therapeutic. I’ve been sitting on this one for a while but might be my favorite idea.
Taking a stretch of used car lots, abandoned buildings, and surface parking straddling a creek / flood zone (likely undevelopable in any meaningful way) and turning it more into a vegetated area with a 9-hole par 3 golf course [inspired by Butler Pitch & Putt in Austin].
Pilot Mill residents would pitch a fit, but it’d be so useful. For me in particular, I almost never go to Five Points from Oakwood because it’s just far enough away to be inconvenient, but that would solve it.
Environmental benefits… Golf courses aren’t exactly beneficial to the environment given the amount of water wasted, pesticides and herbicides in ground water, etc. The only possible benefit would be the extra trees, if they even live to be 30 years old without falling. Not to be harsh but, they do more harm than good for the environment.
I like the thinking of converting it to Greenspace. But a big no on the Golf Course for me. Disc golf course, maybe. Or perhaps some other greenspace use.
Par 3 course means the whole thing except for the tee box and greens is basically natural / low-maint. area. Better than parking lot. Shoot could even do turf for greens/tees to minimize water, pesticides, herbicides…
