AC Hotel Raleigh Downtown

I tried, but Tower Two crane is gone. :sob:
Got some sunrise aerial shots but there’s a missing crane!

I noticed on the webcam yesterday morning that it was escaping! :oncoming_police_car:

The Willard crane is too short to get in a pic with the Bloc 83 crane(s), but I was able to frame it up with the 301 Hillborough crane this morning.

A bit of a more downward angle to see the construction site better.

Wow that first pic makes downtown look huge

That’s what she said. It’s all a matter of perspective, though she came from Atlanta so not sure what she meant.

That was my reaction too! The skyline really stretches out from this vantage.

A rooftop bar would so rock here! All of Raleigh’s finest midrises on display! (but it’s not in the plans :sob:)

Wall going up already!

Heh you can see the crane for the Willard project showing up in the Block83 construction cam.
We should be able to monitor Willard rising from this view.

Kind of crazy it won’t have one. Is that outdoorspace in the renderings just a pool? I would think almost any place that is being designed going forward will include an outside/rooftop area.

They were already very desirable and with COVID-19 that demand will just increase (compared to an indoor bar).

If I had a project that didn’t include one and had not yet gone under construction i would seriously consider adding one if at all feasible.

I didn’t remember the Willard being (part) steel construction.

What did you think it would be? I assumed it would be steel given its height. Thanks for the pics update!!

I honestly thought it would be all wood so this is a nice surprise! Though maybe just the first floor is steel.

Oh thank god it’s not wood!

It’s a commercial structure. 1st floor has to be steel/concrete.

Is there such a building type as wood over first floor steel?

Yeah I think most wood buildings with ground floor retail are like that.

I typically see wood over concrete.

Yeah I guess that’s more common, but I know I’ve seen wood over steel too. I’m trying to think of some examples but I can’t remember. :man_shrugging:

At 7 stories, doesn’t it need some amount of not-wood on the bottom floors? I forget the code requirements, but I’m sure people on here know. Anyways, I just assumed it would all be steel. One way to find out tho! :hourglass_flowing_sand:
