That was my point. I’ve only seen it over concrete.
You can do wood over steel. The steel has to be fireproofed.
I don’t usually see wood framed hotels. Steel framing is more common in my observation, even o relatively short hotels.
Whatever they’re building at triangle town center, behind Macy’s on mall property I think it’s a hotel and the entire thing is wood. 100%. Which I thought was very bizarre. It’s about 5 stories if my memory is correct. I haven’t been out there in months.
I’ve seen a number of wooden ones the last few years.
There’s also the new hotel at the Gorman exit off 440 that is 100% wood, but mostly engineered wood products. A combination of steel, LVLs, and other EWPs is very common in residential. The engineer just looks for spans carrying load and potential deflection of various materials. You can achieve the same result with a steel beam or an LVL so long as the deflection ratings are the same for a given span/load.
Thanks for sharing, I’ve been wondering how this has been coming along!
The taller metal beams on the right side seem to indicate this project will be all steel (yay!), but I guess we’ll see. I’m looking forward to walking by when the elevator shafts are topped out, to get a feeling how big this is going to seem from a pedestrian point of view.
Unless design changed, the 2nd floor and roof level were the only steel framing. The rest is cold form metal studs
The Origin was also cold form steel framing for reference.
Oh, neat! Thanks for sharing. Hopefully that goes up fast, then!
I took some aerials yesterday that I’ll try to get watermarked and uploaded later today. This one is from the roof of the West this morning. Love how the Willard is making an appearance from this angle!
Awesome shot, a wonderful view of Glenwood south, and even North Hills in the distance.
Hotel is shaping up really well.
Really awesome pictures!
Pretty funny that there are more trees along the tracks then on that stretch of the road.
GloSo don’t need those trees…Let’s just hope more Creamery redevelopments sprout versus more Cornerstones or Alibi’s…
WOW - this shot in particular. After the Bloc 83 parking deck is wrapped + the corner is glassed up, and then The Willard is capped out and some glass is starting to go up, this photo will look incredibly dense!
looks like they’ve also begun renovations of the building next door, too!
