Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)

Yes I think you might have mentioned that a long time ago and I followed up with the city. Their documentation said you DID even thought that obscure state ordinance allowed it. Got express permission from Raleigh Water and I asked a staffer to update it on the website, which I believe they did.

Gravity is in my favor - my concern is that there is a daylit section of sewer plumbing under the deck which nobody has said is not allowed yet, including during plan review.

Don’t love it style-wise in terms of neighborhood context but if it accommodates a person and densifies a lot that’s great. That particular structure could be constructed very inexpensively (relatively speaking)

I got a side view of this ADU on my jog today. A little (not much) bigger than the front view makes it look.

I also saw a sign at a house around the corner that looks like they are trying to build an ADU as well.

Looks like an ADU going in off of Kinsey Street in Boylan Heights neighborhood.

Guess they didn’t have enough room so they’re renting out their shipping container. :upside_down_face:

That’s their scullery ADU.

Or wouldn’t that be an AADU?

Huh, I actually know them. Their child is currently living there. It’s super nice (got a tour) and kind of had to be given neighborhood restrictions.

ADU are in residential usually R-4. No commercial business. Goal was to make more housing not business. Give an inch they want more.

God forbid anyone would want a nice walkable community resource in their neighborhood.
Also, I should have said “ADU” instead of ADU.

if they start having air drills and car repair…leaking solvents and flammable liquids, I have experienced it and it wasn’t pleasant.
