Apartment Madness

“long-stay hotel” so essentially a short-term apartment building haha

Well, it depends on who you ask. If you asked the developer as they pursued the project with the city, then it’s an apartment, because the zoning of that property didn’t allow hotels. Once they opened, they were suddenly a hotel. Oops! Too late to do anything about that.
This least favorite vote came out exactly as I hoped with Revisn being the worst and The Lincoln coming in as second worst. The funny thing about The Lincoln is that it looks way better in these photos than it does in person.

I thought that was a very well done project, @ADUsSomeday! Great job!

I don’t get the dislike. Seems like a fine, efficient building for the 65’x150’ site. Kinda bland siding, but at least some pop of color, structured parking, and a rooftop patio. I actually wouldn’t mind more of these on a few other narrow or tight lots. :man_shrugging:t3:

IMO, one of the things that unifies the two losers is the horrible way that they each meet the sidewalk experience.

My thoughts as well. I would like smaller lots. I wouldn’t necessarily force them to have parking either.

The Hargett block is much better for the Lincoln but yea the other 80% of it is terrible. I don’t see what’s wrong with the Revisn sidewalk experience.

I’m with you, between the slope and the narrowness, I’m not sure what they really could have done.

They could have NOT pulled the building so far forward to have a better sidewalk experience. It’s truly horrible. It’s not like the building was existing. They made a decision to design it that way.

I guess that doesn’t really bother me since I’ve seen it so much in ATL and up north. Typical to build right up to the lot line

Yeaa not sure how much different it would be with more setback. Seems pretty standard to me.

…except that the Revisn is like 1/100th of the lot size lmao. I am with @mike in that I truly do not get the hate for Revisn. Is it an AMAZING building with a SUPER ACTIVATED STREET LEVEL EXPERIENCE? No, but it also takes up hardly any space and has some actual, honest to god COLOR on it (Lincoln’s “colors” of beige, grey, brick, darker beige, and puke yellow do not count)

I think the general lack of details on the exterior and color choices make people dislike it. I am not so upset about the street experience either. The best aspect IMO is the small lot footprint. It would be nice to have more building of that size. I actually think the dislike would go way down if 5 story buildings would be built to the right and left of Revisn.

Exactly. Something with some ground floor activation nextdoor on that empty lot would do wonders

It’s supposedly owned by the housing authority of Raleigh.

It was fun to see how people voted differently than I would have. What would be other areas where we could crowd sourced voting like this?

If I were to do it again I might try to get more comments or interaction on individual items. Could that be done constructively?
