With construction on both the east and west side of Boylan Ave., I wonder if they are taking the opportunity to make the connection of Boylan a bit smoother from the south side to the north side of Hillsborough Street?
God I hope so. That intersection is such a shit show.
I did it once. They’re not open most of the day on the weekends and their beer is expensive and tastes like the lines haven’t been cleaned ever. Maybe I’ll just get a club soda and take some pictures.
I will be around Raleigh Xmas week, and will try to get up there and take some as well.
A full makeover of that hotel inside and out would actually be pretty awesome, but inhibitingly expensive I’m sure…
I think that funky intersection gives a little quikiness to the area. We want Raleigh to be unique, but then you are wishing to take out one of the subtle quirks that we actually DO have downtown. I vote to keep it as is.
“we” and “you” in your post as if my question is against the entire community? I was just wondering about it.
That was just done a few years ago.
is a tower crane going to be set up here, or will it just be mobile cranes?
I don’t think there’s room for a mobile crane. My bet is a stationary crane.
Usually poured concrete = tower crane and steel = boom crane.
are they going to do anything with the house at the corner?
No. It’s not part of the project.
It’s a six unit apartment building built in the mid 1920’s.
I couldn’t get a very good picture from the ground but some of the recent shots above show considerable ground floor retail progress but still nothing going vertical. That seems quite different than most of the projects downtown.
They are assembling the crane and have concrete floors poured in several spots. I suspect they’ll be going vertical in the next couple of weeks.
What type of crane? Not a tower crane I’m assuming.
One of those movable ones on treads that angle down at night
